How to Reset and Maintain Epson 1430 Cartridges

Question: I recently acquired a print shop with an Epson 1430 printer. The setup includes several types of refillable cartridges, like 796R and T079, but I can’t seem to turn off the cartridge warning light on the far right. The printer replacement cartridges have 9-pin connections, and some use flat chips. Do you recommend a reset chip tool for managing these cartridges, especially since I need the printer to work for film output? My RIP software is only compatible with the Epson 1430.
Answer: Thank you for contacting us at BCH Technologies, and we apologize for any delay in getting back to you. We understand the importance of optimising your printer, especially in production. We’re glad you’ve engaged with our community, including our YouTube channel, where we continually share solutions to technical issues like these.
For your Epson 1430 and its refillable cartridges, here’s a detailed breakdown of options and best practices to address your concerns:
-
Using a Cartridge Resetter:
The cartridge resetter you’re referring to (Chip Resetter for Epson 7-Pin Cartridges) works well for resetting third-party, one-time-use, or original Epson cartridges. The resetter can be used if the ink level on the computer’s monitor doesn’t drop below 20%. If it falls below this level or a red cross (X) appears, the resetter’s success rate drops significantly, and the cartridge may not reset. I know your cartridge has 9 pins but there are only 7 pins are data pins, so it doesn't use a nine pin resetter.
You can avoid mid-production interruptions by managing the ink levels and resetting at around 20%. However, note that reset success isn’t guaranteed for every cartridge; some may refuse to reset, which is an inherent limitation of this method. -
Dealing with Auto Reset Chips (ARC) on Refillable Cartridges:
Specific refillable cartridges come equipped with ARC chips and an automatic reset mechanism. This cartridge doesn’t need a manual resetter, but it does operate independently, resetting itself after reaching a critical low point (indicated by a red cross X on the ink monitor). When this occurs, simply removing and reinserting the cartridge can prompt the chip to reset and display a whole ink level.
However, a downside to ARC chips is the need for more control over when the reset occurs. With multiple ink tanks working independently, you may need to monitor and reset them periodically, which can be inconvenient, especially when all six inks reset at different times. -
Understanding the CIS System with a Flat Chip:
The reset method changes slightly if your setup includes a Continuous Ink Supply System (CIS) with a flat chip managing all six colours. There are two types of CIS chips: powered and non-powered. A powered CIS chip has a button that, when pressed, simulates cartridge removal and re-inserts it to reset ink levels. However, like ARC chips, this system doesn’t allow precise control over reset timing, so ink reset could still happen mid-project.
Printer issues can be intricate, primarily involving refillable cartridges and reset chips. We cannot offer remote troubleshooting or specific repair support for these issues. However, BCH Technologies does provide in-person diagnostic and repair services at our local repair facility on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're interested, drop it off or mail it to your printer, knowing that it may take a few weeks due to high demand.
