How to Prepare and Balance Your CISS Tanks for Optimal Performance

Prepare Tanks: when you first install a CISS (or after adding ink), you must create a correct air balance inside your tank.  Your goals are:

  • Remove small plugs.  Small plugs are for shipping.  Save them at a safe place.
  • Create the ink level differences between the big and small chambers
  • Put the printer in between the two ink levels

For Self-Priming Tanks

Self-priming tanks are easy to prime.  Just open and remove the small plug.  Then the tank will be automatically balanced.

For D-Model Tanks (with outside case)

The D-Model doesn't need air filters.  Just close the lid once the pressure is balanced.

  1. With both holes plugged (big and small), flip the tank toward the big tank.  Ink will flow into the big tank.
  2. Set the tank straight again.  Open the small hole (air hole).  Use a paper towel to cover the small plug while pulling it out to prevent ink splash.
  3. Insert air filter.  The small tank's ink level should be lower than the big tank
  4. Put the tank next to the printer.  Make sure the printhead's level is within the range of big and small tanks' level.  If you put tanks too high (e.g., on top of the printer), the ink will leak out of the printhead.  If you put tanks too low, the ink will flow out of the printer and get back to the tank.

For CLEAR TANKS (without case)

You will need to install air filters at the step 3.

Your system will automatically find the correct ink balance after that.
