How to Install Nipple Upgrades and Choose Dampers for Epson ET-8550 Sublimation Printing

Question:
I want to install a nipple upgrade on my Epson ET-8550 printhead for sublimation printing. Should I also install your V2 dampers, or are they just for DTF (Direct-to-Film) conversions?

Thank you for contacting us with your question! We are sorry for not getting back to you sooner. We understand that printer-related issues are always urgent and want to address them thoroughly. After converting the Epson ET-8550 ink intake into nipples, the next step is choosing the proper dampers. Using the original OEM dampers is not an option because they are incompatible with this setup.
There are generally two types of dampers:
  1. Clip-On Dampers – These are designed to fit into a cartridge or damper slot on the printer's top. However, the ET-8550 does not have this type of slot, so these dampers are unsuitable.
  2. Holder-Based Dampers – These use plastic holders that surround the ink intake, making them compatible with nipple upgrades.
For the ET-8550, you will need compact dampers that can securely hold onto the nipples. Our testing has shown that the V2 dampers work effectively for this setup. They are the right size and provide a reliable fit around the nipples. However, if you discover other dampers that meet these criteria—compact size and secure fit—you are also welcome to use them.
We recommend performing a test to make sure the chosen dampers maintain consistent ink flow without introducing air bubbles or leaks. A good seal and proper alignment are crucial for optimal performance in sublimation printing.
Important Note:
Addressing printer issues can be challenging because of the hands-on nature of these tasks. Unfortunately, we cannot offer remote troubleshooting or repair suggestions. However, we provide in-person evaluations and repair services through our local diagnostic facility, which you can learn more about here (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service).
Due to high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so there may be a waiting period before your printer can be dropped off. Our services cover either complete printer repairs or specific part replacements, with detailed instructions on how to proceed. However, we acknowledge that our rates may be less economical.
For cost-effective solutions, we encourage self-help using online resources. Start with our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies).
