How to Fix Epson 8550 Error Code 031002 After DTF Conversion and Clogged Printhead

Question:

I just converted my Epson 8550 to DTF but I have an error code:031002. I took the print head out, cleaned it as flooding was going under the dampers and its work fine error code is gone. However, the printer now sounds like it is printing but blank documents. They cannot get the ink to flow through their dampers or lines and have tried everything, including using a syringe from top while pump was on them but still no luck. This is easy? and do i needs a CISS Machine.

Thank you for contacting us at BCH Technologies. We appreciate your input and subscription to the BCH Technologies YouTube channel. Your feedback helps us hone our technical skills and the trust you place in us as we tackle these intricate issues. So, let's investigate your problem with the Epson 8550 and error code 031002, especially converting it into DTF (Direct to Film).

What does error code 031002 mean?

Message 031002—The printer sends a test signal through the printhead to assess whether or not there is an error. After checking, the first test is done by signaling everything OK leaves, certifying that it starts a second signal to simulate printing. In general terms, Heat fault 311002 is specific to circuit phase two (set leader board), saying that the printhead temperature has become too hot due to excessive moisture build-up within the head.

Although the error code no longer appears after cleaning, you may still have a problem with your print head. The error may have gone away, but not completely.

Why Is the Ink Not Flowing?

Dampers Empty: Your printer may produce blank prints that still move because the dampers are empty. The dampers with Epson ET-8550 have big void chambers inside that are challenging to remain full via regular cleansing protocols. Without that damping, the printhead would be impossible to print correctly.

 Refilling the Dampers

There are a few ways to push ink into the dampers; one way would be to park your printhead on the capping station and slowly draw inks from the waste line. If you notice air being suctioned into the ink and not actual ink, carefully press right on top of the printhead as it moves up and down. With this method, some negative pressure is created that sucks the ink because of dampers. You can also fill the dampers manually by sucking them up with a syringe that is connected to some tubing: fill half of the syringe with ink, connect the dampers, and slowly pull the syringe. You will draw air out. Once you release the syringe, the ink will be sucked into the dampers.

After filling up the damper, if you can print any color, even fainted colors, your printhead and the mainboard are fine electronically. You can focus on the physical aspect of the problem, such as unclogging.

 Capping Station Consideration

You should also ensure that your capping station is operational, as a faulty will prevent the necessary ink flow. Your capping station should be fine if you can draw ink during the previous step.

 What If the Error Returns?

One last thing might be that the error code went away because there was no ink left in the printhead when you had tested it previously. If the ink returns to your body again, this error may happen again. If that happens, it is referred to an expert for a more detailed problem determination, which might require deep-dive analysis.
