Question:
I bought a new Epson L1800 but faced the dreaded paper jam error while setting it up. I tried troubleshooting with the company I bought it from but could not get help, and they did not want to send a replacement. I’ve never gotten the printer to work, and it’s incredibly frustrating. Can you help me figure this out and make it into a working DTF printer?

Troubleshooting Process for the Paper Jam Error
This is odd for a new printer as a constant paper jam error during initial setup. This issue is commonly associated with one of the following causes:
- Paper Path Blockages: Small packaging particles and/or dust could be causing the error.
- Misaligned Paper Sensor—Sometimes, a paper sensor misaligns when printing, which may cause false errors.
- Mechanical Problems with the Feed Rollers: The printer may consider a jam if the rollers do not move freely.
Steps to Troubleshoot
Inspect for Obstructions:
- Inspect the paper feed and rollers with a flashlight.
- Check for any corners of tape, foam, or other packaging materials that may have been missed.
- Find the paper sensor above the feed rollers
- Could you clean around the sensor with compressed air or a soft brush? This can remove any dust or debris that may cause false readings.
- Turn the printer off.
- Could you feed a piece of paper through the input tray manually?
- Could you verify that it slides freely in the printer without obstacles? If there is resistance, it can mean there is an obstruction deep in the feed mechanism.
- Could you look over the feed rollers for dirt or damage? Gently dust them with a damp, lint-free cloth.
If the steps above don’t work, you may need to make professional repairs. To help you transform your “heavy paperweight” into a fully functioning DTF printer, BCH Technologies has experience with Epson L1800 printers.
