Now, let’s discuss the Epson error code 000023 and how to fix it:

What you need to know about Epson ET-8550 Error Code 000023
Error 000023 most often happens if the printhead lock is stuck in an upright position or if something is blocking the printhead from moving freely. Since you recently installed brand-new parts, including a drag chain, incorrect installation may be causing limited printhead movement.

Troubleshooting Error 000023 — Step-by-Step
Verify the Drag Chain Installation

  • If you installed a drag chain, ensure it doesn’t inhibit printhead movement across the printer's width.
  • Please ensure the drag chain is not hindered by the scanner cover or stuck on any other parts.
  • If the drag chain limits movement, re-arrange it so the printhead can run all the way to both ends of the printer.

Debug the Printhead Lock Mechanism

  • When the printhead lock gets stuck, the printer malfunctions.
  • To release the printhead lock manually, do the following:
    • Take the scanner assembly out and unfasten the FFC cables and the ground wire.
    • Push the carriage over after manually holding down the printhead lock and looking for blockages.

Check for Hidden Blockages (Styrofoam Or Paper Jams)

  • Eliminating loose pieces of styrofoam from packaging getting stuck in the gears can throw it out of alignment or get it to jam.
  • Look behind the waste tank for a larger gear—this is a frequent location where Styrofoam gets stuck.
  • Look around the gears, and pull out any small pieces of styrofoam or gunk around the gears.
  • If you notice a blockage, manually rotate the gear several times to allow the parts to move freely.

Put the Scanner Back Together Correctly

  • Once the printhead lock has been released and the carriage can move freely, reinstall the scanner assembly with care.
  • You can now reinsert the FFC cables and the ground wire, carefully align the hinges with the printer's body, press everything down smoothly and securely, and finally, power the printer back on.
