Question:
I have an Epson ET-15000. I opened the interior cover to clean the roller wheels, but when I put the printer back together, the cartridge freezes up. With the cover off, the cartridge moves normally back and forth. Is there any way you could help me with this?
Answer:
We are here to help customers like you with all their business needs! To start with, we apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Printer problems are critical, and we always want to give as comprehensive and considered a response as possible. We appreciate your interest and support through our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies)! We can tell you about the expertise and material we need to hone.
Now, let us examine your problem in detail. The problem you described implies a mechanical alignment issue during the disassembly and reassembly of the interior cover. Below, we’ve broken down potential causes for this issue and how you might fix it.
Why Movement of Your Cartridge is Affected by the Interior Cover
- Incorrect Internal Cover Alignment: An improperly aligned or seated internal cover can conflict with the cartridge rail or movable parts.
- Pressure Points and Sensors: Based on their design, specific covers may include tabs or mechanisms that engage with sensors or rails. If these are not appropriately placed, they can interfere with cartridge movement.
Quick Fix: How to Resolve the Problem
Inspect the Cover
- Look at the inside cover to check for any tabs, clips, or alignment notes.
- Look for bent or broken components that could throw things out of alignment.
- Understand how the cover relates to interior components, e.g., around the cartridge path.
Check for Obstructions
- After removing the cover, check the printer's interior to see if there is anything loose, debris, or anything else that might be blocking the path of the cartridge.
- Dirt or debris on cartridge rail & rollers?
Reattach the Cover
- Could you line up the cover to its original position and take note of alignment marks or notches?
- Press the cover onto the device lightly without forcing it. Listen for a “click” to ensure it is locked.
Test Without Ink Dampers
- Remove the ink dampers temporarily and turn the printer on.
- See how the cartridge holder moves with the cover on. This isolates whether the dampers are part of the problem.
Reattach the Dampers and Try Again
- You can replace the ink dampers and see if the movement of the cartridge still provides smooth movement.
Focus Overlay Cartridge Cases Issues Reason
- Blocked Sensor or Switch: Check that the cover isn’t pressing against a sensor or otherwise blocking the way a system detects whether or not a cartridge is in.
- Cable Interference: Verify that no cables have been displaced or pinched as covers were removed.
Additional Notes
If the issue continues, it will likely need to be physically diagnosed to solve potential misaligned or mechanical troubleshooting. Printer repair can be complex, as it requires knowledge of both mechanical and electrical components.
We provide a local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) to perform in-person evaluations and repair devices. Still, due to high volume, all repairs are based on a first-come, first-served basis, which can take weeks to address. We provide printer repairs, diagnostics, and diagnostic tests for specific parts. But if you want something cheaper overall, we recommend doing some online research — self-service!
