Section 1: Introduction
Hello and welcome! Kevin and Abby, your trusted experts from BCH Technologies, are here to guide you through an important aspect of printer maintenance - changing the ink system for the Epson Workforce WF-7710. Like any machine, printers too require periodic care and attention. So, let's roll up our sleeves and get started on replacing the ink system in the comfort of your own home. Remember, a DIY approach does not only save cost but also boosts your understanding of the equipment you regularly use. You will also find a step-by-step video tutorial at the end of this blog to aid your understanding.
Section 2: Setting the Stage
Let’s initiate the process by taking off the screws from the side cover of your printer. This allows us access to unhook all cables, including the FFC and ground wire. With the scanner detached from the printer, we can now begin to work on the main unit. During this process, ensure that all the parts and screws are safely stored to avoid losing them.
Section 3: Unlocking the Print Headlock
The next step involves unlocking the print headlock to move the carriage over. This will allow us to remove the small cartridges inserted in the 3D built cartridge holder. These cartridges are connected via small tubes to the ink system, and larger tubes that lead to the print head. Disconnect the small tubes from the cartridges and pull them out of the carriage through a little hole that has been created for this purpose.
Section 4: Removing the Ink System
The next phase of this operation involves removing the ink system. As you will observe, the small tubes run along the front of the printer, held in place by tape. Undo this tape and gently pull out the tubes. Please take care not to tug too hard, to avoid causing any damage. Move the carriage over for better access and grip of the tubes.
Section 5: Installing the New Ink System
It's now time to replace the old system with a new one. This is where the small tubes come into play. Feed the new tubes through the same hole where we removed the old ones. Once completed, secure the tubes into the metal hooks where the FFC cables hook in. This ensures that the tubes do not get caught when the carriage moves back and forth during printing. Once the tubes are secure, tape them up at the bend for extra stability.
Section 6: Connecting the Cartridges and Filling the Ink Tank
With the system in place, you're now ready to connect the tubes to each cartridge. Fill up your new ink tank with the sublimation ink or the ink of your choice. We recommend using BCH Technologies sublimation ink for optimal performance. Using a syringe, pull the ink through the small tubes to the cartridges. Repeat this process for all four cartridges, then set them into the 3D holder.
The Last Touches
Do not worry if you face some minor challenges along the way. For instance, you may find a small plastic piece getting stuck in the tube when you disconnect it. If that happens, simply pull it out of the tube and place it back in the cartridge. Once you've overcome this little hurdle, you're ready for printing!
Final Thoughts
Although the process may seem complex at first glance, it becomes easier once you get the hang of it. All you need is some patience and a little bit of effort. Remember, each time you successfully complete a DIY task like this, you are taking one more step towards becoming more self-sufficient and knowledgeable about the tools you use daily.
