How to replace a main board for Epson WF-7610 Printer

This blog will discuss installing a mainboard into the Epson WF-7610 fax model. You will need a #2 Phillips screwdriver bit for this process, which you can purchase through BCH Technologies. You can also use ourworkflow sheet for a more in-depth look at the process.

Now, let’s jump in!

First, unscrew the two screws from the back of the fax unit to remove the fax cover. Now, remove the deep screw on the back of the printer to the right and the four screws on the scanner hinge. On the front, you should see a row of additional screws—take these out, as well, so that you can remove the top front cover. Finally, remove the two deep screws on each side of the printer, and you can peel off the front panel.

Remember, there are three connections on the front panel: one big FFC cable, one black-and-red wire, and one ground wire. Now you can unplug all the wires connected to the scanner. Remove the ground wire, and then you can pull the wires out. You may want to take a picture of this assembly before pulling any wires out so that when it comes time to put them back in place, you can see where the wire is connected.

At this point, you can pull the scanner out.

The scanner rests on the scanner hinge at an angle, so just pull it out while keeping it at that same tilt. Remove two screws on the scanner’s hinge, and on the left side, there is one more screw underneath the hinge. Use your finger to work around the casing. Opening up the back duplex door will help you remove the casing. There is a wire connected to the casing, but you can just leave it as is.

You are now going to remove one ground wire and one FFC cable—note that BD means blue side down at this point on the workflow sheet. Unscrew the additional two screws at the top, and look straight down from the black panel. You’re going to see two deep screws, one on each side. Disconnect the RKY cable, and you should now be able to remove the black panel.

Once you find the mainboard, disconnect the three FFC cables on the right side and remove one screw. You might want to take another picture, as you will be removing more wires. After removing the wires on the bottom row, start from the top and disconnect the wires there, going all the way to the bottom. At the very top, remove two FFCs, and then one wire. Look around at the case of the mainboard. Here, you’re going to remove a total of seven screws, including one that’s pretty deep vertically.

Disconnect the Wi-Fi card and take the motherboard cover off.

Now you’re going to need a #1 Phillips screwdriver for the first and only time. Remove the tiny, thin screw from the front of the USB. Switch to the #2 bit and remove the one on the back. Take out two more screws on the motherboard, and you should be able to remove the whole piece.

To install the mainboard, work backward on your worksheet.

Install the screws first and put the mainboard cover back on—and don’t forget to plug the wifi back in. Reinstall the seven screws found on the mainboard back, and rewire over the top of the mainboard. Refer to the wiring picture on your worksheet for a more detailed look at how this is done. Finish the top to bottom wiring on the bottom row. Put all three FFC cables back on the right side, and reinstall one screw.

Now put the black front panel back in place and connect the RK wire. Put two screws on the panel and connect the big FFC cable, the ground wire, and two more screws. Then put the cover back on. Install the two scanner hinges, thread the wires through the hole next to it, and put the scanner back in place. Refer to the pictures on your worksheet for help putting all the wires back and connecting the front panel.

You can power the device on and perform a test run before finalizing everything. Once you’ve ensured that things are running smoothly, you can put the cover back on.
