Today, we are going to show you how to transfer chips from newer HP cartridges. If you have HP 564, 920, 902, 934, or 935, you know that the ink monitor will still show a low ink level after refilling the cartridge. You keep printing until the printer stops reading the ink level, and you will be able to print forever. However, you will not be able to know how much ink in the cartridge.
How about getting a third-party cartridge with a see-through casing? The chips of these cartridges will show a full tank initially, then just like the HP cartridge. We'll stop reading the ink level after the first tank. Therefore, your old HP chips are as good as any third-party chips. You can harvest them and buy a blank cartridge at a fraction of the cost. HP used to make cartridges like the one on the left, and an X-Acto knife can remove it quickly. After many people doing it, HP made these new chips embedded inside the cartridge. This tutorial is to show you how to harvest these chips.
There is a square box on the bottom of the cartridge, which corresponds to a hole in the print head assembly. This box helps the chip to line up with the printer's contact pin. Then, there is a ridge, so we want to cut a piece from the end of the cartridge, a little further than the hole, but before hitting the bank. We used a rotary tool with variable speed. We want to keep the speed low so it won't melt the plastic.
Now, we polish it and make it thinner. What a beauty. Moment of truth. Because of the extra height, you need to give a little push on the tab. Notice it didn't say 'Yellow is a non-HP cartridge' because we used the yellow chip from a genuine OEM cartridge.
