How to change Epson's Timing Belt Encoder Scale

Today I'm going to show you how to install a timing encoder on your Epson. The printer uses a timing encoder to determine its location. If you find the printer that will skip some lines or print headers seems cannot find where it is, it probably is the timing encoder. To get a new encoder, you can go to bchtechnologies.com and go to printer parts.

The timing encoder typically has some oil on it, you can see here. What you get is you got a paper towel, get some warm water, and then you can have a dab of your hand soap. Do not use any strong solvent. The soap is OK, and the alcohol is OK. It'll be easier if I show you this printer without a cover (see video below). This is the old belt. You can see it has a number. This number should be towards you, and this way, you can know which is the front, which way is back, and make sure when you install it, you install it upwards. It is spring-loaded on the left and is secured on the right with a hook.

To unload the spring, you need a hook or jig. You can have a paper clip and blend it and make yourself a jig. This is the one I made. Just pull it, and you can release the spring from the base. Now the spring is loose, and now we work on the right. Now we can pull it out of the reader. Now you'll rotate counter-clockwise, and it will come out. To install it, make sure you read the numbers, make sure which one is front and which one is back, and don't put it upside down. It has an arrow on the upper left, but I usually go with the numbers. The reverse procedure. I go straight, and then I turn clockwise. I found it easier to load the spring first and then wire the encoder through the readers on the printer.

Now you can pull and attach it to the hook.
