If you own an HP Officejet printer, chances are you may have encountered an error that says "Tray Open" on the display panel. This error occurs when the printer detects that the paper tray is not properly closed or the tray leg is broken. If you are currently experiencing this issue, don't worry - you can easily fix it with the right tools and instructions.
In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to repair the paper tray leg of your HP Officejet printer and solve the tray open error. We will also mention some tips and tricks to prevent this problem from happening again in the future.
Before we begin, make sure you have the following tools and materials ready:
- Screwdriver (Phillips and flathead)
- Adhesive glue or tape
- Replacement paper tray leg (optional)
Step 1: Power off your printer
Before you start any repair work, make sure to turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. This will prevent any potential electrical hazards and allow you to work on the paper tray leg safely.
Step 2: Locate the broken tray leg
Once your printer is unplugged, inspect the paper tray and look for any signs of damage or breakage on the tray leg. If the leg is completely detached, you may need to replace it with a new one. You can purchase replacement tray legs online or from your local printer repair shop.
Step 3: Remove the paper tray
To access the tray leg, you need to remove the paper tray first. Gently pull the tray out from the printer until it stops. Then, locate the two tabs on the bottom of the tray and push them inward while lifting the tray upwards. This should release the tray from the printer.
Step 4: Remove the tray leg
Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws that hold the broken tray leg in place. Carefully detach the leg from the printer and keep the screws in a safe place.
Step 5: Repair or replace the tray leg
If the tray leg is only partially broken, you can use adhesive glue or tape to fix it. Apply the glue or tape to the broken parts of the leg and press them together firmly. Wait for the adhesive to dry completely before reattaching the leg to the printer.
If the tray leg is completely broken, you may need to replace it with a new one. To do this, simply attach the replacement leg to the printer using the screws you removed earlier. Make sure the leg is securely in place before moving on to the next step.
Step 6: Reattach the paper tray
Once the tray leg is repaired or replaced, it's time to reattach the paper tray to the printer. Insert the tray back into the printer and push it in until it clicks into place.
