Behind the Scenes Work Log: Our Process of Making PG-245 CL-246 Refillable Cartridges for Canon Pixma MG

Welcome to BCH technologies. My name's Kevin. Today we will show you how we make a refillable cartridge if it's a customer's order. We'll show you how we make it. Probably you can make it yourself, so you don't have the order from us and so save you some money because all the techniques are already covered in the previous videos, which I'm going to give you some links below. Today I'm not going to talk too much. I'll just quickly go through and show you how we do it. It's like a blog rather than a tutorial. Let's get started.

We have some used cartridges we ordered from eBay in different shapes. Those are black ones and those color ones. What am I going to do is we're going to make those refillable, and we're going to test them on the MG 2522 printer, which we have a lot of them, and then we have another room full of them. The tools that we have is we have our set of refillable colors, AS-RFC-CB2, which we got from our BCH website.

We got some sandpapers, a box cutter, a utility knife, a super glue we got from 99 Cent Market, some containers to hold the liquid, and cleaning solutions. You can use water, and then we have the inks. Those are containers when we have the original cartridge. I like those holders because the front chamber is perfect for unclogging.

I just put a little bit of liquid. That may be too much. Just pour it into the others. It's not random, but it's after it is. I'm going to pick a color. I like it when I buy it from eBay. They pack it nicely with this origin container, so we have another one to use later.

Now let's take a look at the refill set. This one we got from bchtechnologies.com. We go-to accessories and our refill tools. The one we use is this set that's spongeless. Also, we have one that has a sponge. You might also want to try that one. That's pretty good too. The bottom two is the one that lots of people ask us to do for them. This is what we're doing right now, so we're making a set for the customers.

The way it works is you'll go to-- Let's say you want to do a 245, 246, you can select, you want to use our cartridge, you want to use our black cartridge, or use our color cartridge, or you can send us yours. Remember when you send it, we'll now require a signature. Refill requires a signature, or we'll not sign it so that the package will be returned. For example, if you're going to send us the cartridge and of course, let's say you want to make a color one, you'll only need a one-color cover, then the labor you only pay for the installation of the color cartridge which is what we're doing now.

Then you can decide what kind of ink you want or don't want ink at all. Then you can add it to the cart and then check it out.

Here's a color one and a black one. We'll put them here. Let's cut off the black one first. I like to do it on the edge of the table. Sorry, I just showed you my crotch there. Okay. Sorry.

One thing I say is the Excel cover is thin, so we get this big sponge.

You can see the color one. The color didn't come out too much. Maybe yellow come out, which we're probably going to do some unclogging. The black one didn't come out at all, so we may have some dried ink to unclog there.

The HP doesn't give you much ink there.

Okay, now I'll blow off the dirt.

Get down a piece of new placemat here. With the covers, you'll want to try it on a couple of times before you're doing it. For the color ones, I suggest you try at least ten times so you can put them on with your eyes closed. Make sure it snaps in. You're going to hear a click and snap into it. You want to try it a couple of times before you do it because you got a wide shot on this procedure to make it right, so take it. I'll make sure there's no debris inside here. It's short. Make sure it becomes natural to you as you put it on. Not like this. There. I call it making love.

Let's do the black one first.

This site is perfect. This site has a little bit of bubble, so I add a little bit more.

That should do it.

Of course, do not touch the printhead. Now the color one.

I won't mess with tape. I'll hold it for a couple of minutes, maybe two minutes, and just let it dry.

I want to do another final check for the air bubbles. Then we'll leave it here for it to dry for at least half an hour, maybe more. Sometimes we do two or three hours.

That's about half an hour. Two more, but I'm busy, so I have to see if this works.

Now let's try it.

By the way, this is the sponge version of the filter cartridge, and this is the previous version, which is version one of spongeless. The clear one is version two. We found the version one works well, except the magenta here tends to clog. If you have this problem, you can email me. I can tell you the solution. Okay, let's try this. Here's the scanner's manual. If I go to my printer, go to troubleshooting, and go to "cleaning."

I didn't do the whole cycle. I found if I do this, "device and printers." If I go to "printer properties"--

Now we print another check.

There's no black. That'll be the magenta—no yellow. I think there are some air bubbles. What we can do is let's fix the black first. Maybe we'll let it be 1 ml of air. You can do 1/2 ml. Let's see, I'll push air into the cartridge, and the ink will come out. We've got the refill hole fit closed. Let's see if it come out or not. No. I'll do now, 2 ml. Oh, nice. See that. See the ink? See the ink bubbles? Okay, that is what we try to remove.

Now I'll do it for the colors. Remember, we have a little bit of magenta, so I'll do 1 ml first. Oh, yes. 1 ml for yellow. Wow, see the bubbles. There you can see that you had a red and a yellow. Hey, everything. Cool. Now, printing. That's good. Oh, by the way, you can see the ink is running low so what I will do is we're going to print more pages until the ink has depleted. If the ink is running low, there's no way you can reset the chip. When the customer is saving, they're going to freak out and say the ink is low. We would instead give the customer a depleted cartridge, so force them to reset. I can't reset clear off this ink level. We're going to print a couple more pages before we ship it out.

Whoa, that's too much black ink. We're going to fix the black.

2 ml is too much for black. I still got some ink in it.

We'll add more ink.

I'm not worried about that. There's still not anyone here, so strange. When we look at it, it does have ink coming out from everywhere. I'll just put it in and do another printing.

The black looks pretty good, and the magenta needs some work. It was looking pretty good earlier. What I will do is take it out and make sure it has enough ink. I'll clean it a bit.

Okay, perfect. Now you can see this window pops up, which tells you the black is running out. Do not close this window. Do not touch the computer. Keep this window open and hold down the triangle.

I can see that window disappeared.

You can see black doesn't have that top anymore. That's it- what you need to do to reset it. We'll keep printing, and this is done.
