A Beginner's Guide to Removing the Printhead from an Epson ET-8550 Printer

Step-by-step instructions on how to safely remove the printhead from your Epson ET-8550 printer

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on removing the printhead from an Epson ET-8550 printer. In this beginner-friendly tutorial, we will break down the process into six easy-to-follow sections. Whether you are a novice or an experienced printer user, this guide is designed to help you achieve success. Let's dive in!

Step 1: Removing the Housing Cover

Taking Off the Left Side Housing Cover

Start by removing the housing cover on the left side of the printer. If your printer has already been disassembled, you can skip this step. However, if you are starting from scratch, you will need to follow our step-by-step instructions on how to remove the cover.

Step 2: Removing the CR Cover

Taking Off the CR Cover and Unscrewing the Screws

With the housing cover removed, you will now be able to access the missing CR cover. Locate the two screws securing the cover and remove them. Once the screws are removed, you can take off the CR cover.

Step 3: Sliding the Printhead and Removing the Spring

Preparing the Printhead for Removal

Next, slide the printhead to the left to create enough workspace for the subsequent steps. Remove the spring using a dental tool or a similar instrument. A set of dental tools is a wise investment for maintaining your printer and can be found for around $10.

Step 4: Removing the Tube Guard

Taking Off the Tube Guard Safely

To remove the tube guard, lift the front part first, then slide it towards the right. There is a notch that will allow you to lift it up once it has been moved to the correct position. Carefully pull the tube guard to the right and lift it up to remove it.

Step 5: Disconnecting the Tubes and Marking the Damper

Organizing and Disconnecting the Tubes

Before disconnecting the tubes, use a marker to label the damper and tubes with numbers 1-6. This will ensure proper reinstallation later. After labeling, disconnect the tubes from the damper and set the tube bundle aside.

Step 6: Removing the Adapter Plates and Printhead

Final Steps for Printhead Removal

With the tubes disconnected, it's time to remove the adapter plates. There are six screws holding the plates in place. Using a Phillips #1 screwdriver bit, remove all six screws. After removing the screws, use a dental tool to gently lift and remove the adapter plates.

With the adapter plates removed, you can now access the four screws securing the printhead. Remove these screws and carefully lift the printhead. Finally, disconnect the two FFC cables, and you have successfully removed the printhead from your Epson ET-8550 printer.
