About This Printhead

This listing is for an XP600 printhead or nipple-converted Epson ET-8550 printhead. A nipple-converted ET-8550 printhead is modified for XP600-style ink delivery use.

Because this is a modified/special-use printhead, proper installation and printer condition are critical. A new printhead will not fix an underlying printer problem by itself.

Before Installing the Printhead

If your printer previously burned a printhead, do not simply install this new printhead and expect the problem to be solved. If the underlying issue is still present, the printer may burn the replacement printhead as well.

Before installation, check the following:

• Mainboard fuse condition

• Printhead cable condition

• Driver IC chip condition

• Ink system condition

• Dampers

• Tubes

• Ink tanks

• Capping station

• Waste line

• Pump function

• Cable orientation and connection

A burned printhead is often a symptom of another problem, not the only problem.

Priming Requirement

All printheads are filled with shipping fluid and must be properly primed before use.

You may use an ink charge or perform a “park and prime” procedure:

1. Turn the printer on.

2. Allow the printhead to park naturally on the capping station.

3. Connect a syringe to the waste tube.

4. Slowly draw ink through the waste line.

5. Once ink flows steadily into the syringe, stop.

6. Run the printer’s built-in regular cleaning function.

Do not run repeated strong cleanings back-to-back. Give the printer time to rest between cleaning cycles.

Blank Printing After Installation

If ink comes out of the waste tube during cleaning, but the printer still prints completely blank, the printhead is likely not clogged.

In that case, check the printer’s electronics, especially:

• Mainboard fuse

• Driver IC chip

• Printhead cable

• Cable seating

• Mainboard damage

A blank print after successful ink flow can indicate an electrical or signal issue, not a printhead clog.

Clean the Ink System Before Installation

If your previous printhead was inactive for a period of time, especially in a DTF printer using white ink, the ink system may already be clogged.

Before installing the new printhead, thoroughly clean or replace:

• Ink tanks

• Ink tubes

• Dampers

• Capping station

• Waste line

• Pump line

• Any white ink pathway

White ink can separate, settle, thicken, and form gel-like clumps inside the tubes and dampers. These clogs can block ink flow and quickly damage or starve a new printhead.

Many printhead failures happen because the old ink system was not cleaned before the replacement printhead was installed. If dried or gelled ink remains in the system, the new printhead may fail shortly after installation.

Kevin’s Recommendation

To extend the life of your new printhead, maintain your printer regularly. Research proper maintenance procedures and consider using an automatic maintenance script or routine if your setup supports it.

For DTF printers, white ink maintenance is especially important. Shake or circulate white ink as needed, prevent ink from sitting too long, and keep the capping station and waste system clear.
