Q&A

Question: What kind of sealant do I use?

Answer: We use an electronic-grade silicone sealant with precision applicator:

You may also use a conformal silicone coating that offers the same advantages as a standard silicone coating but with a reduced curing time. Kevin typically reinstalls the printhead without waiting for the silicone to cure, so the difference is minimal. Unless you want to open up the printhead and conformal coat the whole board, regular silicone sealant is fine. Additionally, refrain from using spray-on conformal coatings on the printhead itself and choose silicone sealant instead of glue

Version 2

In our previous video, we introduced a beta two-piece printhead guard set for the XP-15000, featuring a larger guard for the printhead and a smaller piece designed to protect the FFC. However, we discovered that the larger guard could potentially disrupt the printer's alignment. As a result, we've discontinued the production of the larger guard. Instead, we've created a new tutorial demonstrating how to apply silicone sealant for waterproofing the area initially covered by the larger guard.

In the updated version, we've enhanced the smaller FFC guard due to its critical role in preventing ink leakage into the printhead connections. Since we no longer supply the larger piece, we now provide two of the smaller pieces, ensuring you have a spare. The importance of the small guard remains paramount, as it offers protection without compromising future maintenance or the need to replace the FFC cable. For areas previously covered by the larger guard, we recommend using silicone sealant to achieve a secure, waterproof seal.
