Unclogging Printheads on Epson WF-R4640

Question:
My Epson WF-R4640 has a clogged printhead. How can I unclog it and restore proper printing functionality?

Answer:

To clean the printhead, the first step is to run a nozzle check from the printer’s maintenance menu. Use the printer’s head cleaning cycle if the nozzle check shows missing lines or gaps. Run no more than 2–3 cleaning cycles in a row, as over-cleaning will overheat the printhead. If you go printing, leave the printer to rest for around 30 minutes between cycles to avoid more damage.

For stubborn clogs, you might need to flush the printhead manually using a cleaning solution. To do so, turn off printer and take the ink out. Attach a silicone tube to a syringe and calmly inject cleaning solution through the ink-ports. Just be careful not to press too hard, or you might break the printhead. After applying the solution, the affected area needs to be allowed to sit for several hours to dissolve the dried ink. Next, replace the cartridges and print another nozzle check to verify that the printhead is clear.
