Solving Ink Cartridge Cover Errors on Epson WF-7710 and WF-7720

Question:

I fixed the ejection lever of my Epson WF-7710/WF-7720 and put the printer back together, but now I have an "ink cartridge cover open" error. Is this a problem with the data cable? I cleaned it and booted up the printer once.

Answer:
As for the "ink cartridge cover open" error, this probably has to do with the data cable, so make sure everything is tightly connected. This issue may happen as the printer tries to move the print head towards the left and gets blocked or misperceived things. The printer's inner works may misread the blockage as an open cover on the ink cartridge. Even though you have cleaned one wire, the wire could still not be adequately aligned or not connected properly. Check for any visible sign" of damage on the cable, "like bends or cracks; ensure it's properly seated in its connector.

Also worth examining is the cover sensor itself. The sensor (particularly on the WF-7710 and WF-7720 models) can sometimes get printers when you take the machine apart and put it back together. If the sensor is not working properly or is blocked, it can cause the printer to think that the cover is open. Make sure your assembly around ink cartridge cover is reset if not properly aligned.
Otherwise, unplugging it and reseating the cable might help, so you may want to rerun a test. Such steps often clear communication errors between the printer's internal components and sensors.
