Resolve Epson Artisan 1430 Flashing Lights and Firmware Update Errors

Question:

I own an Epson Artisan 1430 printer with AA25G2 firmware (25/02/2016). I ran mine after hitting Ink, Paper, WiFi, and Power to go into Service Mode and then running the epson18180_firmware_updater, which downloaded it to the printer. However, at the end of the update, all the printer lights are flashing: Power, WiFi, Info, Paper, Ink, and all the Ink bay lights. I waited over an hour later, but the lights flashed on. Any suggestions? My garbage can top is opened, and I would not like to throw away the printer if possible!

Answer:

Your problem is a common post-firmware update issue. The simultaneous flashing of all lights on the printer is referred to as the "lights of death" scenario, as this most probably means that a printer's critical component or the firmware has been interrupted and has effectively stopped the printer from working. These issues can result from an unsuccessful update, incompatible firmware, or physical hardware issues.

First, try these troubleshooting steps:

Re-Enter Service Mode: First, re-enter Service Mode with the Ink, Paper, WiFi, and Power buttons pressed. This will reset the printer and allow you to proceed with the repair process.

Verify the Firmware: The update may have failed or left the printer unusable. If the firmware update is incomplete, you must load a well-known version. This matters because if you install broken or insecure firmware, the printer can be rendered unresponsive and stuck in this flashing-light state.

Run Epson Adjustment Program: Next, run the Epson Adjustment Program. This program will display the stored error codes of the printer, and it has a dual purpose, as it will also allow you to identify whether the problem is mechanical or related to the firmware. The error codes may directly tell you what went wrong. Mechanical issues: If there are any specific mechanical errors, such as issues with the ink bay or other hardware components, they will be listed here. I can clarify whether the problem is firmware fixable or the printer requires hardware repair.

Substitution of Error Codes: The Adjustment Program Epson will display an error code if your printer is not working correctly. Please note the error code and cross-check it with the official Epson documents or trusted online resources. These codes can often lead to specific components, such as the printhead, the ink system, or a logic board failure in the printer.

In some rare situations, if the error is complicated or the printer doesn't respond even after completing these steps, it may need a diagnosis. In case of more serious mechanical damage, including damage to the printer's internal components, repairs will not necessarily be possible through simple software corrections.
