How to Resolve Epson Printer Ink Flow Issues and Error 031006 After DIY Modifications

Customer Question

I've followed all the instructions and watched the YouTube videos several times, but I still can't get consistent ink flow through my Epson printer. Now, after trying many times, I'm getting the 031006 error code on my brand-new printer, which is just over a month old. I want a refund because the parts don’t appear to be functioning correctly.

About the Ink Flow Issue and Error Code 031006

First, let’s address the issue with the ink flow. Inconsistent or absent ink flow during DIY conversions typically stems from a few areas:

  • Clogged Printhead Nozzles: If the printer has been left unused or if incompatible inks were used, it may result in clogs that cleaning cycles can’t easily resolve.

  • Air Gaps in the Dampers or Tubes: If you didn’t fully prime the dampers or push ink through the lines, air may be trapped. This disrupts continuous flow.

  • Incorrect Pressure from External Tanks: Some aftermarket systems apply either too much or too little pressure, which can affect ink delivery.

  • Installation-Related Mishandling: Excessive pulling, reseating, or unplugging of the dampers, cables, or printhead can cause a short circuit or mechanical failure.

Now, the Epson 031006 error is particularly concerning. It indicates a short circuit in the printhead or mainboard, which is usually triggered by:

  • Ink spillage on the printhead's ribbon cable or circuitry during manual filling.

  • Damaged FFC (Flat Flexible Cable) connectors due to excessive handling.

  • Incorrectly plugged-in dampers or connectors applying pressure on sensitive contacts.

  • Electrical shock during assembly, especially in static-prone environments.

Once triggered, this error may require a complete printhead or motherboard replacement—repairs that are generally not covered under standard manufacturer warranty if third-party modifications were made.

From what you've described, the issue seems less related to a defect in the dampers or connectors themselves and more likely due to installation-related damage. DIY conversions carry inherent risks. Even minor deviations in handling can cause irreversible damage to internal components.

Since no proof has been provided to show that the parts are defective, and because the 031006 error suggests permanent electrical damage likely caused during setup, we unfortunately cannot process a refund under our return policy. We recognize this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for, but we’re committed to being as fair and transparent as possible.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we're unable to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, it may take a few weeks before we can arrange for your printer to drop it off. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed. However, we acknowledge that our rates aren't the most economical. Thus, we recommend that you resort to self-help via online research. You can start by checking out YouTube or visiting our YouTube channel's homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of queries every day asking about videos for specific topics. Having created videos over the past nine years, it's challenging to remember every single one. Therefore, using YouTube's search function would be the most efficient approach. Additionally, YouTube may suggest relevant videos from other channels that can assist you.
