Question:
I have an Epson XP-4100 printer and use 212 XL cartridges, which have nine teeth on the chip. I noticed your chip resetter has seven points-so which resetter should I buy to reset my 212 XL Epson cartridges? Also, I'd like to know the size of the small hand drill included in your 600 ml 6-color refill ink kit for Epson printers so I can purchase the right silicone plugs.
Answer:
1. Resetting Epson 212 XL Cartridges
Traditional ARC (Auto Reset Chips) and physical chip resetters-the kind with contact pins-are increasingly becoming outdated technology. Epson has implemented advanced chip encryption in their 212-series cartridges, making hardware resetters unreliable or completely nonfunctional. The newer cartridges with nine contact teeth differ from the older 7-pin design that worked with standard resetters.
Instead, the modern solution is software-based, often referred to as chipless firmware. This method removes the need for physical resets altogether. The most widely used and reputable resource for this conversion is InkChip.net (https://inkchip.net/soft).
Here's how you can proceed:
-
Visit InkChip.net and download the chipless software.
-
Check if your printer model (Epson XP-4100) is supported. If not, it may be a newer firmware version not yet added-keep an eye on their site for updates.
-
InkChip frequently updates support for new models and is known for responsive customer service.

If you prefer video guidance, we recommend following this detailed tutorial: https://youtu.be/F78BuqBW22Q. InkChip also offers waste ink counter reset tools-check out https://inkchip.net/wic and their corresponding video tutorial at https://youtu.be/sDsdLoaMX-w.
Although we're not affiliated with InkChip, we've personally used their products and found them effective. They previously offered a 10% discount code "kevin9966", though availability may vary.
For older Epson models that still rely on hardware resetters, compatible tools can occasionally be found on eBay using search terms like "Epson waste ink reset tool" or "ARC chip resetter." However, given Epson's firmware changes, software solutions are now the most reliable route for XP-series printers.
If you're running a chipless setup, one thing to keep in mind is that the printer's LCD or driver will no longer display ink levels. To manage this, consider using transparent third-party refillable cartridges, which allow you to visually monitor ink instead. These are readily available online, usually priced between $1-$2 per empty cartridge.
2. Hand Drill and Plug Size for the 600 ml BCH Refill Kit
The small hand drill included in the BCH standard 600 ml 6-color refill ink kit for Epson has an outer diameter (OD) of approximately 2.2 mm. Unfortunately, BCH does not currently supply silicone plugs specifically sized to fit this drill hole. However, you can find suitable 2 mm or 2.5 mm silicone sealing plugs on eBay, Amazon, or hobby supply stores. These plugs are typically used to seal refill holes after injecting ink into refillable cartridges.
Make sure to choose silicone or rubber materials that can withstand mild solvent contact, as cheaper plastic plugs may degrade over time due to ink exposure.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we're unable to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, our queue operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and it might take a few weeks before your printer can be dropped off. Our services include complete printer repair or part-specific evaluation with detailed instructions. However, since our rates may not always be the most economical, we encourage self-help research via online sources. You can start by visiting our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) and using the search icon next to "About" to find videos for your specific printer or issue.
