Question:
I'm looking for a chip resetter for Epson 212 cartridges. Is this available, and what options do I have?
Answer:
When it comes to Epson 212 cartridges, traditional ARC chips (Auto Reset Chips) and physical chip resetters have largely become outdated. In today's market, the more common and reliable method is to use chipless software solutions.
Here are your main options:
1. Chipless Software (Recommended Modern Solution)
-
Visit InkChip.net (https://inkchip.net/soft) for chipless software downloads.
-
If your printer model isn't listed yet, it may simply be too new. InkChip frequently updates its support list, so checking back is wise.
-
Other resources for chipless tools include ChiplessSolutions.com (https://chiplesssolutions.com) and WIC Support (https://www.wic.support).
-
InkChip is well known for being among the first to support new Epson models and generally offers solid customer service.
2. Step-by-Step Guides
-
For cartridge resets with chipless software, InkChip provides this video guide (https://youtu.be/F78BuqBW22Q).
-
InkChip also covers waste ink tank resets. You can find their reset utility at InkChip Waste Ink Service (https://inkchip.net/wic) and watch their reset tutorial here (https://youtu.be/sDsdLoaMX-w).
We've personally used InkChip for our printers, and at times they have offered discount codes such as kevin9966 (though availability can vary).
3. Legacy Option: Resetters for Older Models
-
While resetters for Epson 212 are scarce, some older models still rely on physical resetters.
-
These can occasionally be found on marketplaces like eBay by searching for terms like "waste ink reset" or "chip resetter Epson 212."
-
Keep in mind that availability is limited, and resetters are slowly being phased out.
4. Ink Level Monitoring for Chipless Printers
One common concern with chipless setups is losing ink level monitoring on the printer's LCD screen. A practical workaround is to use transparent third-party refillable cartridges. These allow you to visually check the ink levels.
-
Epson OEM cartridges typically cost around $1-$2 each if bought empty.
-
Refillable or empty third-party versions are widely available on eBay.
While we at BCH Technologies do not sell Epson-compatible cartridges directly, we strongly recommend exploring these refillable options if you are switching to chipless.
Important Note: We are not affiliated with InkChip. However, because their instructions can sometimes be unclear, we've created instructional videos on our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) to help walk users through the process.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We do, however, offer in-person evaluation and repair services through our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Our services are on a first-come, first-served basis and may involve some waiting time before we can work on your printer. While our repair costs may not always be the lowest, we encourage self-help as a cost-effective alternative. A great place to start is YouTube's built-in search tool, which allows you to find relevant videos on our BCH Technologies channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) as well as other helpful resources.
Thank you again for reaching out to us. We truly appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to provide helpful guidance for your printer needs.
