Question:
I recently encountered a paper jam in my HP OfficeJet 9010. When I pulled the paper out, the plastic duplexer and a couple of plastic pieces separated from the unit. I don’t know if these pieces broke off and can be repaired. I searched your videos for an answer but could not find it. I’ve also attached a photo. Do you have any advice or a video on how to resolve this?
Answer:
Step 1: Finding the White Plastic Piece
The white plastic piece you’re referencing is probably part of the duplexer’s bottom plate. This bit is critical for directing paper appropriately through the duplexing mechanism. Luckily, I had a video that covered this component. You can watch it here: HP OfficeJet Duplexer Bottom Plate Fix [https://bchtechnologies.com/products/n16-duplexer-bottom-plate?_pos=2&_sid=7d1223e64&_ss=r]
If this piece separated cleanly and isn’t broken, you should be able to snap it back into position. Please make sure the tabs line up and then mount it.
Step 2: Recognizing and Re-attaching the Black Plastic Parts
Unfortunately, it’s tough to see where they were initially placed without the exact black plastic pieces that became loose. Nevertheless, here are some suggestions of what could be going on:
Guide Rollers/ Paper Path Brackets: A few printers have small plastic guide rollers or brackets that help guide paper through the duplexer. If these came out, search for small slots or indentations where they might nestle again.
Internal Gears: Several HP models have small plastic gears inside the duplex assembly. If one of them fell out, look inside the printer to see if any teeth will replace it.
Broken Parts: If the plastic parts are cracked, they might have broken off from an internal part of the duplexer. In this instance, reassembly may be impossible without replacing the flawed section.
Step 3 Reassembling the Jigsaw
Examine the FRU Casing: Note where the plastic bits snapped off, and see if their shape matches any slots or mounts.
Spring Tension Points: Other parts in the duplexer are spring-loaded and need to be put in the proper position to snap back into place.
Assemble the duplexer enough to test it: If you get everything back together, move the duplexer around by hand to test its movement, but before you, it is reattached to the printer.
We will work on the black plastic pieces later if not all of them seem to go somewhere. You can set them aside loosely until we find out if the duplexer still works. If the printer works, they may not be needed to run it.
Going Forward & Further Resources
If you can’t reattach the pieces, you might need a new duplexer unit. HP does sell individual replacement parts sometimes, or you can find third-party replacements online.
Printer problems can be a tricky affair — so hands-on to fix! There so that we can report problems and do not have remote troubleshooting, recommendations or printer repair. Through our local diagnostic facility, we provide an in-person evaluation and repair service:
➡ BCHPrinterRepairService [https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service].
As we have limited capacity and high demand, we work on a first come, first served basis. So it could take a couple of weeks before we can start processing your printer for repair. We outline the necessary steps for repairing either an entire printer or parts of it. However, we need to admit that our rates are not the best out there. So we strongly suggest you turn to self-help through online search. You can begin by exploring YouTube or exploring our YouTube channel page:
➡ BCH Technologies YouTube [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]
Use the search icon next to “About” on the right-hand side of the menu bar to look for specific videos. Every day I get dozens of requests to create videos on certain themes. After nine years of writing and producing videos, it is hard to keep track of them all. So, best to search using YouTube’s search function. Plus, YouTube could surface relevant videos from other channels that may help.
My heartfelt gratitude for your patience and support. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and I hope you can get your HP 9010 working again!
