Question:
I suspect that my DTF L1800 printer's printhead is failing. Do you sell printheads? If not, what do you recommend? Additionally, is there a way to automate the daily printhead cleaning process so that my printhead lasts longer? I often forget to clean it, which leads to clogging. I don’t use my printer daily, and sometimes, it sits idle for weeks.
Answer:
Regarding your issue, many DTF printers are based on the Epson L1800 or 1390 model. However, some manufacturers include a modification board near the printhead to cut costs. This board allows an L1800 printhead cable to connect to it, but then it converts the output to be compatible with an L805 printhead, which is generally more affordable. If your printer has this modification board, you are likely using an L805 printhead instead of a true L1800 printhead, even though the printer is labeled as an L1800 or 1390.
Look for a green circuit board near the printhead carriage to check if your printer has this modification. If you find one, your printer is likely using an L805 printhead. If you prefer to install a genuine L1800 printhead, unplug the cable from this board and connect it directly to an L1800 printhead. However, before purchasing a replacement, verify which printhead is installed to avoid compatibility issues.
We do sell both L1800 and L805 printheads. You can find them on our website by simply searching BCH Technologies (https://bchtechnologies.com).
As for automated printhead cleaning, we understand that regular maintenance is critical to prolonging your printhead's lifespan, especially if your printer sits idle for extended periods. If you often forget to clean it, clogging can become a major issue. Fortunately, there is a way to automate this process. You can use a macro script that integrates with the adjustment program to schedule automatic cleaning cycles. We have a detailed guide and video tutorial on how to set this up, which you can find at BCH Macro Script for Printhead Cleaning (https://bchtechnologies.com/products/bch-macro-script-for-printhead-cleaning-using-adjustment-program-little-mouse?_pos=1&_sid=91760fbeb&_ss=r).
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we cannot provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. However, we offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility at BCH Technologies Printer Repair Service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take a few weeks before we can schedule your printer drop-off. Our services cover complete printer repairs and specific part replacements, with clear instructions on how to proceed. We acknowledge that our repair rates might not be the most economical. Therefore, we recommend leveraging self-help options, such as online research. A good starting point is checking out our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). You can search for specific topics using the search icon next to the "About" section on the right-hand side of the menu bar.
