Question:
I recently purchased a new Epson ET-15000 and have been using Hiippoo sublimation ink. Despite following extensive maintenance routines-including multiple nozzle cleanings, purge sheets, power cleanings, resting the printer for 12-24 hours between cycles, keeping the ink full, replacing the maintenance box twice, and even installing a completely new printhead-the nozzle check continues to fail. Over 200 pages have been printed in attempts to fix the issue, but there's no improvement. Epson support was unable to help, citing the same steps I've already taken. Does anyone have videos or recommendations? I haven't printed a single actual project yet and don't know where to turn.
Answer:
Regarding your Epson ET-15000 and the printhead issues you're experiencing: we have rarely encountered a sublimation ink causing such extreme clogs. Sublimation inks are generally designed to flow smoothly without special maintenance. Many users simply print daily office documents to keep the system active, and the printhead can last for years.
Since your printer has failed numerous nozzle checks even after installing a new printhead and performing extensive maintenance, there are a few possibilities:
-
Ink Quality or Batch Issues: Even though Hiippoo sublimation ink is widely used, occasionally a batch may have particulates or chemical inconsistencies that can clog nozzles. Trying a different reputable sublimation ink brand could help determine if the clogging is ink-related.
-
Printer Usage Patterns: Extended idle periods, infrequent printing, or irregular maintenance cycles can sometimes exacerbate nozzle clogs, though you mentioned following recommended resting periods. Double-checking your workflow to ensure the printer is used consistently might help.
-
Severe Internal Contamination: If over 200 pages of cleaning attempts-including a new printhead-haven't resolved the issue, there may be internal ink residue or contamination in the printer's tubing or connections. Unfortunately, this level of internal breakdown is not something that can usually be fixed remotely or by routine cleaning.
-
Maintenance Box Replacement and Power Cleaning: While you've replaced the maintenance box and used power cleanings, repeated aggressive cleaning cycles can sometimes stress the printhead and ink flow system. Moving forward, it's best to use cleaning cycles sparingly and monitor the printer's response.
