Question
After manually cleaning the print head of my printer, I encountered a problem. Initially, everything was working fine, but after cleaning, the scanner cables came loose from the motherboard. I re-inserted them and reassembled the printer. However, when I tried a test print, I received the E2 100016 scanner error. After re-checking, I noticed that the cables were still loose, so I secured them again. Now, I hear a strange motor sound, and the error persists. I also inspected the alignment of the scanner cogs and support arm, and they seem to move correctly. I suspect that the medium cable tip might be damaged. Could I use the ET-8550 scanner cable as a replacement for this model?
Answer
Understanding the E2 100016 Scanner Error
The E2 100016 scanner error typically indicates a problem with the communication between the scanner motor and the main board. If you hear a motor sound along with this error, it often means that the scanner motor is not receiving the correct signals, likely due to a damaged or improperly connected cable.
Possible Causes and Fixes
-
Damaged or Loose Scanner Motor Cable:
-
If the scanner motor cable was accidentally yanked out during the print head cleaning, it could have damaged the connector or cable itself. Double-check the cable for visible damage or loose ends.

Addressing printer issues can be a complicated affair due to the hands-on nature of the problems. Therefore, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, suggestions, or support for printer repairs. We offer an in-person evaluation and repair service via our local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Given the high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so it might take a few weeks before we can get your printer to drop it off. Our services are structured to repair either a whole printer or specific parts, with clear instructions on how to proceed. However, we acknowledge that our rates aren't the most economical. Thus, we highly recommend that you resort to self-help via online research. You can start by checking out YouTube or visiting our YouTube channel’s homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Look for specific videos using the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar. I receive dozens of queries every day asking about videos for specific topics. Having created videos over the past nine years, it's challenging to remember every single one. Therefore, using YouTube's search function would be most efficient. Plus, YouTube might suggest relevant videos from other channels that could assist you.
