Epson ET-8550 Error 031006: Troubleshooting and Repair Guide

Customer Question:

I am getting some form of paper jam error on my Epson EcoTank 8550, but the screen is all blue except for the error code 031006 or something similar. I have done printhead cleaning and dryer cleaning, now only blue screen. How can I fix this issue?

Answer:

What Is Epson Error Code 031006?

Message: The error message about a paper jam, error 031006, does not indicate a physical jam. Instead, this error generally indicates a mainboard problem. The mainboard is the printer’s control center that runs and manages all internal functions. The printer may experience the following symptoms if the mainboard is damaged:

  • Boots incorrectly with a blue screen
  • Show a phantom paper jam message
  • Occasionally freeze or shut down
  • Stop printing altogether
  • Common Causes of Error 031006

Common causes of the 031006 error on the Epson ET-8550 are:

  • A faulty or damaged mainboard
  • Cables in the printer that are loose or not properly plugged in
  • An electrical problem or power surge
  • Dust and debris or moisture buildup on mainboard

Epson ET-8550 Error 031006 How to Repair

How to report Windows boot error code 0xc000021a?

Step 1: Perform a Power Cycle of the printer

If you have not opened the printer, try a basic power cycle:

Turn off and disconnect the printer from the power supply.

So please Wait for at least 5 mins to discharge the residual power.

Then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

If error continues, move onto the next step.

Step 2: Check the Internal Connections

Error 031006 is usually caused by a connection problem, so checking the internal wiring is a nest step.

Printers Uncase – Disassemble the appropriate removal of covers. If you don’t know how to do this, look up the user manual or find a video tutorial.

Check bleed all cables and connectors – Examine ribbon cables and having to mainboard.

Reseat loose cables – If you notice any connections that look loose, remove them and plug them back in securely.

Step 3: Disassemble and Validate the Mainboard

But if the problem continues, it might be time to consider replacing the mainboard itself.

Remove all connectors from the mainboard, remembering their locations for reassembly.

Disassemble it by unscrewing and removing the mainboard.

Look for physical damage, such as:

Burnt components

Loose connections

Corrosion

Cracked solder joints

Step 4: Check for Blown Fuses

One of the best DIY fixes is inspecting the F1 and F2 fuses on the mainboard:

To restore proper functionality of the printer a blown fuse must be replaced; therefore the printer may not be functional if it is blown.

Do small minor diagnostics if you have any electronics experience (e.g. look at caps, B12, etc.).

Step 5: Fix or Replace the Mainboard

In case the mainboard is damaged, there are two options available:

Repair it yourself (if you know how electronics work).
