Question:
I have an Epson ET-5850 printer. After Microsoft reloaded my Windows 11 software, my printer stopped responding consistently. I uninstalled the Epson software and attempted to reinstall it, but now I cannot connect the printer to WiFi. The display shows Error Code 202620. How can I resolve this?
Answer:
1. What Error Code 202620 Means
Error 202620 on Epson printers indicates a WiFi or network connection failure. This does not usually mean your printer is damaged-it simply means that the printer cannot establish or maintain communication with your wireless network. After reinstalling Windows 11, your previous printer settings and network profiles were likely erased or disrupted, which explains the issue.
2. Confirm the Network Environment
-
Make sure your WiFi is working properly on other devices like phones or laptops. If they also fail to connect, the issue is with your router or ISP rather than the printer.
-
Ensure the ET-5850 is within range of your WiFi router. Weak or inconsistent signals are a common cause of Error 202620.
3. Reset the Printer's Network Settings
On the printer's control panel:
-
Go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
-
This clears any outdated or mismatched settings.
-
Then, return to WiFi Setup Wizard, select your SSID (network name), and re-enter your WiFi password.
4. Reinstall Epson Software and Drivers
Instead of relying on Microsoft's auto-installed drivers, download the latest drivers and utilities directly from Epson's official support page. During installation:
-
Select Wireless Connection as the setup method.
-
Allow the software to detect your printer once it's successfully reconnected to WiFi.
Windows updates sometimes overwrite Epson drivers, so reinstalling directly from Epson ensures full compatibility.
5. Assign a Static IP (Optional but Strongly Recommended)
Dynamic IPs (assigned automatically by your router) can cause printers to "disappear" from the network. To fix this:
-
Log into your router's admin page.
-
Reserve a permanent IP address for the Epson ET-5850.
-
On the printer's control panel, configure it to use this static IP.
This prevents Error 202620 from reappearing in the future.
6. Check Windows Firewall and Security Settings
Since Windows 11 was freshly reloaded, firewall and security permissions may block Epson's software. Make sure EpsonNet, Epson Scan, and related applications are allowed through the firewall.
7. USB Test for Confirmation
If all else fails, temporarily connect the ET-5850 to your computer using a USB cable. This will confirm whether the drivers installed correctly. Once USB printing works, you can safely switch the setup back to WiFi mode.
Printer problems like this can be tricky because they often require hands-on testing with both the printer and the network.
