Epson EcoTank ET-2750 / ET-4750 Maintenance Box Not Resetting: Understanding Waste Ink Counter Resets

Question: I installed a new maintenance box on my Epson EcoTank (ET-2750 / ET-4750), but there was no prompt to reset anything. My computer still shows a maintenance box issue when I try to print, and I can't find a way to reset it. I also noticed that the WIC reset software doesn't seem to cover this model. Why isn't the printer recognizing the new maintenance box, and how can I reset it?
Answer:
Why the Maintenance Box Didn't Reset the Error
Epson EcoTank printers fall into two fundamentally different waste-ink system designs, and this distinction is the key to your situation.
1. EcoTank models with a chipped maintenance box
Some Epson printers-particularly many EcoTank and WorkForce models-use a maintenance box that contains a chip. This chip stores the waste ink counter data.
In these models:
-
The waste ink counter is NOT reset by software
-
Installing a new maintenance box only works if the chip on the box is new
-
The printer reads the chip, not the physical pads themselves
If the chip reports "full," the printer (or the driver on your computer) will continue to flag a maintenance box warning, even if:
-
The pads are new
-
The box is physically replaced
-
The printer itself shows no front-panel alert
This explains why:
-
You only see the warning when trying to print from your computer
-
There's no reset option on the printer or in the driver
-
WIC reset software does not support your model
For these printers, your valid options are:
-
Purchase a brand-new maintenance box with a new chip
-
Find a compatible chip-only replacement and transplant it
-
Use a physical chip resetter designed specifically for that chip (if one exists for your model)
Software resets will not work on these printers.
2. EcoTank models without a chip-based waste counter
Other Epson models do not use a chipped maintenance box. Instead:
-
The waste ink counter is stored in firmware
-
The printer must be reset using software
-
Physical pad replacement alone does nothing
For these printers:
-
Software such as WIC Reset Utility is required
-
You can purchase reset keys from InkChip's WIC tool at InkChip WIC Reset Utility (https://inkchip.net/wic)
If your printer is not listed in WIC's supported models, it almost always means your printer uses a chip-based system, not a software-resettable one.
Why Your ET-2750 / ET-4750 Isn't Supported by WIC Software
This part is understandably frustrating, but it's not a bug or oversight.
If your EcoTank model:
-
Is not listed in the WIC utility
-
Does not prompt for a reset
-
Still reports a maintenance box issue after replacement
Then your printer almost certainly belongs to the chip-based maintenance box category. In this case:
-
The waste ink counter cannot be reset by software
-
WIC reset keys will not work
-
The printer is waiting for a new chip signal, not a command
That's why the software you referenced in the video doesn't apply to your specific model.
Important Note About Error Behavior
Some Epson printers:
-
Do not show the maintenance warning on the printer screen
-
Only display the issue through the computer driver when printing
-
Continue printing until a threshold is crossed, then suddenly lock out
This behavior is normal for certain EcoTank firmware versions and can be misleading, making it seem like the maintenance box replacement wasn't detected at all.
Addressing printer issues can be a complicated process due to the hands-on nature of the problems involved. Because of that, we're not able to provide remote troubleshooting, repair suggestions, or step-by-step support for printer repairs. We do offer an in-person evaluation and repair service through our local diagnostic facility: Printer Repair Service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Due to high demand, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and it may take several weeks before we're able to accept a printer for drop-off. Our services are structured to repair either the entire printer or specific components, with clear instructions on how the process works. That said, we also recognize that our rates may not be the most economical option. For this reason, we strongly encourage self-help through online research. A great starting point is YouTube-especially our channel homepage at BCH Technologies on YouTube (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Use the search icon next to "About" on the right-hand side of the menu bar to look up specific topics. I receive dozens of messages daily asking for video links on very specific issues, and after nine years of producing content, it's difficult to remember every video. Using YouTube's built-in search is by far the fastest and most effective approach, and it may also suggest helpful videos from other creators.
Thank you again for taking the time to reach out and for your continued support. I truly appreciate your patience and your interest in understanding how these systems work, and I hope this explanation helps clarify why your printer is behaving the way it is.
