Question:
I have a DTF B30 Wiics printer with an Epson R1390 printhead. When I power it on, the ink light keeps flashing continuously, and the printer won't print. How can I solve this problem?
Answer:
Why the Ink Light Flashes Continuously
On Epson-based DTF printers like your B30 with an R1390 head, a flashing ink light indicates that the printer has detected an error condition related to ink flow, cartridges, or sensors. Common causes include:
-
Cartridge or CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) recognition errors - The printer may not be detecting one or more ink channels correctly.
-
Waste ink counter reached its limit - When the internal pad counter maxes out, the printer locks itself until it's reset.
-
Sensor-related issues - Problems with the APG (Auto Paper Gap) sensor or other internal sensors may trigger the flashing ink light.
-
Printhead or board communication errors - If the system cannot properly communicate with the printhead, it may enter error mode.
How to Diagnose the Error with Epson Adjustment Program
The best way to confirm what's wrong is to use the Epson Adjustment Program, which is normally provided to Epson service technicians but is sometimes shared by DTF printer sellers. Here's how to use it:
-
Open the Epson Adjustment Program.
-
Select the correct USB port from the dropdown list where your printer is connected.
-
Go to Particular Adjustment Mode.
-
Scroll down and select Printer Information Check.
-
Click Check. The program will display the most recent error codes at the top (listed as error number one).
Once you have the error code, you can search for its meaning. A useful resource is to Google "BCH Epson Error", which will bring you to our page explaining Epson's "Triple Secret Error Codes." For example, if the code relates to the APG sensor, you'll know the printer is failing because of a mechanical sensor issue.
If you need a quick visual walkthrough, we also have a short video guide on YouTube (https://youtube.com/shorts/FPZzpyYuZLE) that demonstrates how to use the Adjustment Program to check error codes.
Next Steps
-
If the issue is a simple counter reset (like the waste ink counter), resetting it with the Adjustment Program may solve your problem immediately.
-
If it's a sensor or printhead communication issue, further inspection and possibly replacement of parts may be required.
-
If you don't have access to the Adjustment Program, you may need to search online or request it from your DTF supplier, as availability can vary.
Addressing printer issues can be complicated due to the hands-on nature of the work. Because of this, we're unable to provide remote troubleshooting, detailed suggestions, or direct support for printer repairs. However, we do offer an in-person diagnostic and repair service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Please note that we work on a first-come, first-served basis, and due to high demand, it might take a few weeks before we can take in your printer. Our services cover both complete printer repairs and specific component replacements. That said, we understand that our rates may not always be the most economical option, so we strongly encourage self-help approaches as well. A great place to begin is our YouTube channel homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Use the search bar next to "About" to quickly locate relevant videos, or let YouTube suggest related tutorials from other creators.
Thank you again for reaching out and for your support. We hope this information helps you take the next step in diagnosing and fixing your DTF printer issue.
