Question
I’m having trouble with my Epson L1800 printer. Initially, it was the printhead, so I replaced it, but I accidentally pulled the fixed cable out from the back. I ordered a replacement from BCH and installed it, but now the printhead slams to the left. Additionally, the wiper is stuck, and I can’t seem to get it to work correctly. I checked for any buildup and didn’t find anything. How much would it cost to have it fixed by your technicians?Answer

Resolving the Printhead Slamming Issue
If the printhead continues to slam to the left after replacing the fixed cable, here’s what to check:-
Inspect the Fix Cable and CR Sensor
First, remove the cable and inspect it along with the CR (Carriage Return) sensor for damage. Our website has a helpful video guide that walks you through the process. You can find it here (https://bchtechnologies.com/products/13-pin-page-width-cr-encoder-sensor-csic-ffc-cable-for-epson-l1800-1390-1430-dtf-dtg-printers). -
Ensure Proper Connection to the Mainboard
Could you make sure the FFC cable is securely plugged into the mainboard? If the cable routes through an intermediary breakout board instead of directly connecting to the mainboard, please ensure the cable's input and output sides are correctly matched. If everything is properly connected and the issue persists, the problem may lie in the breakout board or the mainboard itself. -
Test Using Swappable Components
If you have access to a working mainboard and CR sensor board, you can swap them to identify whether the breakout board or the mainboard is the issue. This diagnostic step will help determine which component is causing the problem.
Fixing the Stuck Wiper
For the wiper, follow these steps to troubleshoot and repair:-
Inspect the Capping Station
A stuck wiper often results from the capping station being out of sync. A detailed guide on troubleshooting and repairing the capping station can be found here (https://bchtechnologies.com/products/video-capping-station-assemble-disassemble-guide-for-l1800-1390-artisan-1430-and-1400). -
Manually Lower the Wiper
To lower the wiper, you can manually rotate the capping station pump with a flathead screwdriver or gently flip it down with your finger. -
Sync the White Carriage Lock
Ensure that the white carriage lock on the back of the capping station is correctly synced with the wiper, as shown in the video linked above. The wiper will not function correctly if these components are out of alignment.
