Printhead Locking Issues on the Epson L3260 after Cleaning a Clogged Tube — How to Fix

Question:
I Soaked a Clogged Tube on My Epson L3260 in Warm Water, and Now I Can’t Lock the Printhead. It Was Easy to Unlock, but I Can’t Figure Out How to Lock It Back. I Was Told There Is a Printhead Alignment Program, but I Don’t Know How to Determine If It Would Work. Can You Help?

Answer:
We appreciate you contacting us, and we're sorry we didn't get back to you earlier. We appreciate that printer issues are time-sensitive and need to be handled delicately so that we can offer the best solution possible. We at BCH Technologies appreciate it, especially on our YouTube channel (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies). Your feedback supports our ongoing improvement in technical competence.

The Epson L3260 printhead did not lock back into place after I moved it to clean a clogged tube.

Make Sure the Printhead Is in the Correct Position
Could you be sure to orient the printhead correctly on the right side of the printer before locking it?

  • This initiates the head-cleaning sequence. When it shoots a bit of ink, gently slide the printhead assembly as far to the right as possible until it reaches its resting position.
  • If it isn't gliding, see if anything is blocking its path, such as paper residue after printing or dried ink.

Rotate the PF (Paper Feed) Rod in Manual Mode
The PF paper feed rod engages the printhead locking mechanism.

  • Search for the PF paper feed rod(a tiny gear-like component on the right side of the printer).
  • Rotate the PF rod clockwise using your fingers or a small tool.
  • With that turn, the printhead will lock itself in place.

(Optional) Then, run the printhead alignment program
If you worry that printhead misalignment is causing the problem, you can run Epson’s built-in alignment program:

  • On the control panel of the Epson L3260, go to Settings > Maintenance > Printhead Alignment.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the alignment process.
  • Now, this program won’t repair the locking mechanism itself, but it could help fix any misalignment that could have occurred when the printhead was moved.

Power Cycle the Printer
Sometimes, the printer’s firmware might not recognize that the printhead has been moved manually. A printer reset enables it to reinitialize the printhead locking system:

  • Power off the printer and disconnect it from the wall for 5 minutes.
  • Replug the printer and turn it on.
  • See if the printhead is locked in place now.

Check the Printhead Locking Mechanism
If the above steps fail, you may need to look for mechanical problems:

  • Inspect the printhead area for small plastic levers or clips that may have come adrift.
  • If a locking tab is broken, you might have to replace or repair your printhead locking mechanism.

Final Thoughts
Printer issues are tricky to address—their problems need to be handled hands-on. We're sorry, but we do not offer troubleshooting for remote printer repair. We stock a local diagnostic shop for in-person diagnosis and repair services (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service), but service is first-come, first-served, with a few week's wait times due to high demand.
In case of self-help, we suggest you check our YouTube channel ( https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) and search through YouTube for relevant tutorials.
Thanks again for getting in touch. We appreciate your support and look forward to assisting you with all your printer needs!
