How to Reset Waste Ink Pad for Epson EcoTank ET 2760
Today, we’ll be resetting the waste ink pad for the Epson EcoTank 2760. This blog will discuss an alternative DIY solution that can save you money.
For this process, you will need a computer and a screwdriver. There are two parts: inspecting the physical ink pad to see if it needs to be replaced. The second part is tricking the printer into thinking you have a new pad.
Downloading the INKCHIP Software
If you notice that it is mostly full (70%+ or so), you can proceed to step two. Typically, an ink pad is reset with software or a hardware resetter. If you don’t see a chip on the device, it’s probably going to have to be done with the software option.
Check inkchip.net for your printer model’s support. Click on the “WIC” tab and check if it’s supported. The ET 2760 model is included. Before purchasing the software, download it to ensure it will be compatible with your computer. Locate it in your download folder and double-click the file.
When it asks you if you want to install it, click “yes.” After it’s downloaded you’re going to see some new icons on your desktop. Note, however, that if you have anti-virus software installed on your computer, it may automatically block you from opening the files. In that case, you will need to override these protective barriers to allow access manually.
Within the new program, click the “waste ink counters” option. You will need to plug your printer into a USB port to continue. Once you’ve done so, you will see your printer model in a dropdown menu on the next screen. Click on “read waste ink counters” and check what percent of each counter is used.
Waste Counter Results
If the counters are above 80-90%, go ahead and replace your ink pad. Otherwise, you can just keep using it. At this point in the process (if you could get the program to read your counter levels), you should know whether the INKCHIP download is compatible with your computer. If so, return to inkchip.net and buy the program.
The code should arrive in your inbox within seconds. If it doesn’t, be sure to check your spam folder to see if it went there. As a last resort, you can contact INKCHIP support for help. You should get two emails, one containing the code and the other with your receipt. Copy and paste the code into the input box on your download screen.
It will tell you to restart your printer to finish the counter reset process. Still, for this demonstration, we’re just going to hit the power button and turn it off and turn it back on again. Once you’ve completed this step, click the “read waste ink counters” button again to see if your levels reset. If the process was successful, both counters should read 0. Aside from resetting your counter levels, you can also perform a deep cleaning with this software.
Installing an External Tank
The hard part is over, but now you need to find a way to install an external tank to prevent the ink from flowing onto the pad. Turn your printer on its side so you can see where the ink flows out. You will need a dual connector, some sort of jar or tank, and velcro to hold the jar in place. BCH Technologies sells a kit containing all these items, so you can purchase them here if you don’t have them lying around the house.
You will first need to fit the ink connector to the ink outlet. It may be easier to attach a tube first and then insert it. Now, turn the printer back into an upright position and cut your tube to length. Use your velcro to stabilize the tank to either the table or the printer.
Now, it’s time to do some maintenance on the printer. Find the maintenance menu on the home screen and click “ok.” Select the second option, head cleaning, and hit “start.” Look at the back of the printer, and you should see ink pouring into your tank.
Note that your first cleaning may not produce ink. In this case, you will need to proceed to the second phase of the cleaning, which is a nozzle check. The nozzle check isn’t always perfect, so you should let your printer do the second-level cleaning, and that’s when the ink should come out.
Also, keep in mind that you want to avoid performing too many cleanings at once. Even if you come up with an imperfect nozzle check, trick the printer every third check and say that it’s perfect. Return to the main menu and do the cleaning again. If you just keep cleaning without exiting and returning to the home screen, the printer will eventually think your printhead is damaged. At that point, it will stop performing the cleaning.
