Inside an HP Printer- HP 920 Start-Up Cartridge Design Anatomy Update (non-XL)

This post is an accompaniment to a video on my YouTube channel. Said video is an update to a previous one I had posted regarding the anatomy of an HP 920 Startup Cartridge. We specifically covered the non-XL cartridges. I needed to make this video because after I posted the first one, HP changed how they design their cartridges.

The Black Cartridge

Let’s take a look at the regular black startup cartridge. Unlike before, the startup cartridges now have an opening between the front and rear chambers. I also saw a bit of ink on the back side of the separating wall, indicating that HP was actually using both chambers for non-XL cartridges, which they weren’t doing before. This means that refilling these cartridges is a lot easier for us now, too.

The Color Cartridge

Next, we’ll look at the color cartridges. Upon opening it up, I saw that HP had expanded their sponges and is now making them longer. The colored cartridges also no longer have a back chamber, and the sponge takes up the entire cartridge, meaning it can hold much more ink. Therefore, we should be refilling them via the front chamber.
