Question:
I have comments based on an Epson Artisan 1430, firmware AA25G2 25/02/2016 After entering service mode by long-pressing the Ink, Paper, WiFi and Power buttons, I ran the Epson 18180 Firmware Updater. It sent the file to the printer, but now the Power, WiFi, Info, Paper, Ink, and all the ink bay lights are flashing. I waited for about an hour but the lights are still flickering. Can this be fixed, or is it time to throw the printer out?
Answer:
Simply entering SST and uploading a firmware may not fix issues such as "lights of death. To correctly identify the issue, you’ll want to use the Epson Adjustment Program to check the error codes the printer is likely reporting. This tool aims to give you deep insights into the condition of the printer and whether the issue is related to the firmware or if it is a mechanical failure.
When you run the Adjustment Program and get the error codes, you can then begin to zero in on what to do next — re-flashing the firmware, repairing a specific hardware failure, performing routine maintenance, etc. In case update process was interrupted or incompatible firmware was uploaded, you may need to re-flash your printer with known good version of your printer firmware. Keep in mind, though, that the flashing lights could also signal hardware problems, like a failing printhead, power supply, or corrupt EEPROM.
A Note on Printer Repairs
Printer problems can he complex issues to deal with, given that many of the use cases are tactile problems. We do not do remote troubleshooting, recommendations, nor do we support printer repair. But we have a local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service/) that allows for in person evaluation and repair, and as you can imagine, due to demand, we work first come first served, and it may take you a few weeks to get a printer dropped off.
We maintain a system that guides you to either repair the entire printer or specific parts. Our rates are not the cheapest and we recommend checking self help video trailers on our You Tube Channel home (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) as well as the inbuilt search facility to see if a tutorial is not already available for your specific issue or issues from other creators that could help you.
