Crack the Epson WF-4830 Ink Code: Refillable Cartridges and Smart Workarounds

Question:

Thank you for all the helpful information you share, especially with non-members. I have an Epson WF-4830 with downgraded firmware that works fine with refillable 822 cartridges from Ink Owl, but they only have one-time chips. Is it possible to play a swap game with 2-3 sets of refillables to avoid buying new chips?

Answer:

As far as your Epson WF-4830, I'm afraid that Epson cartridges don't work the same 'swap game' as HP printers. HP printers normally remember the last 3-5 cartridge sets, and are thus able to rotate them for re-use. For Epson, though, that's impossible with how their chip technology is set up.

And for your current situation, this is what you have available:

Chipless Firmware: This would eliminate the need for a chip altogether; however, after visiting the InkChip website, I'm afraid the WF-4830 is still just a tad too new and there is no chipless firmware yet.

Physical Resetter: Older style cartridges have chips that can be reset with a physical resetter, but unfortunately, the 822 cartridge chips are encrypted, so this option won't work for your model.

Onetime chips: Available on AliExpress for roughly $10, you could buy a set of one-time chips. This is your best bet at the moment.

Auto-Reset Chips (ARC): While ARC chips will automatically reset when the cartridge is refilled, to my knowledge they don’t currently exist for the WF-4830.

Until then, your only real solution will be to keep using one-time chips, and wait for InkChip or another manufacturer's chipless firmware solution for the WF-4830. It’s annoying, but this workaround will keep your printer working for now.

Fixing printer problems can be very technical and hands on. Sadly, we are unable to provide remote troubleshooting or repair support. We do have a local diagnostic facility (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) capable of in person evaluation and repair, but that is a first come first serve situation where the demand is very high and with repair taking place weeks in sometimes. We provide full printer repairs or specific parts with a well-defined path to resolution. Our rates are not the lowest available, and we STRONGLY encourage you to do self-help through online resources.
