Bypass Red Blinking Lights on Your HP Printer and Keep Printing

Question:

I’ve been following your channel for some time and learned how to refill ink to save on cartridges. I have an HP 2135 Ink Advantage, and when the ink I refilled it runs out and I replace it with the used cartridge, the printer keeps showing a blinking red light. Can I still use the refilled cartridge without this problem as I have done with Canon printers?

Answer:

The HP 2135 Ink Advantage has a way to eliminate the red blinking light problem after refills. Unlike Canon, where you have to reset the chips, HP printers are easier to work with. The HP only remembers the last 3 to 5 cartridge IDs. Here is what you should do:

Note that when the red blinking light appears, you need to rotate the cartridges to fool the printer that your refilled cartridge is new. Therefore always keep two or three empty or half-empty cartridges with you while refilling. When the printer rejects that refilled cartridge, replace it with another one from your kept set. Repeat the rejection and replacement process until the original cartridge is no longer recognized as empty. After the printer cycles through 5 cartridges, replace your refilled one, and it will work without red lighting.

Providing that your printer settings allow it, you might also wish to disable the ‘Cartridge Protection’ option, which could prevent you from using refilled cartridges. This can usually be done through the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings software on your computer.

Printer issues might be among the most difficult troubleshooting endeavors to address, given the handwritten nature of the issues. Thus, we do not offer any remote troubleshooting, recommendations or fixes for printer repairs. We provide a walk in diagnostic and repair service through our local diagnostic centre BCH Technologies Printer Repair Service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service), due to volume we operate on a same day or next day first come first served basis. So, it will probably be several weeks before we can tee your printer up to swing by and drop it off. We provide services for repairing a complete printer or some of its certain parts, so there are clear instructions on how to proceed. But we do understand our rates are not the cheapest. So we strongly advise you to consider self-healing through googling it. To see or find specific videos, go to YouTube / our YouTube channel homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) and use the search icon on the right hand side next to "About" on the menu bar.
