Troubleshooting Ink and Double-Printing Issues on Fusion Model J DTF Printer – Printhead or Converter Board?

Question
I bought a Fusion Model J DTF printer from DTG Pro not long ago, but I’m having issues with the ink. When I print, the ink doesn’t fill in the design—the edges appear to be double-printed. Would this have to do with a bad printhead? The seller has not been at all helpful, and I’m frustrated.
Answer
We appreciate you taking the time to reach out and watch our videos! I’m sorry to learn of the issue with your printer and the lack of support you’ve received. I also apologize for the delay in my response — this kind of printer problem is always time-sensitive, and I do my best to answer in detail and with care. Here at BCH Technologies, we appreciate you, like our YouTube channel [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. You have a unique perspective that allows us to become better at supporting users like you.
From what you described, it sounds like your printer also has a printhead converter board. See picture:
This board will allow your printer to use a cheaper L800 or L805 printhead ($250) instead of the original L1800 ($400) printhead. The L800 and L805 belong to the same printhead family; many sellers prefer calling them L805 to avoid confusion with L1800.
If the problem is with the converter board, you can try a few things. One option would be to disconnect the cables from the converter board and connect them directly to a real L1800-type printhead. This resets the printer to factory settings, possibly solving the double-printing problem. But, take this advice with a grain of salt, other settings might have caused the problem as well.
Or, if your existing L805 printhead seems promising, you could swap out the converter board for something like the Printhead Conversion Breakout Board for L1800 to L805 [https://bchtechnologies.com/products/printhead-conversion-breakout-board-l1800-1390-to-l805-l800-adapter-riser-card-1]. I’ve worked with customers who have more than one of these boards in their stash and rotate them as necessary since sometimes boards have quirks that develop over the years. This might help you isolate the cause of your problem—if you have a spare board, test it.
Printer issues can add complexity to your day, as it is hard to diagnose without frequently manipulating the hardware. Hence, we cannot give remote troubleshooting, advice, or service for printer repairs. We also have onsite evaluation and repairs through our local diagnostic [https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service] facility. Due to the volume of requests we receive, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. So, it may take some weeks to get your printer to drop it off.
Our services are human-oriented to repair a whole printer or parts of it with step-wise instructions. But we also realize our rates are not the most affordable. Therefore, we strongly suggest you take the self-help route through online research. You or they can first go to YouTube or our YouTube homepage [https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies]. Thank you for reaching out. I hope this helps resolve your issue. We’re on hand any time you need support beyond these!
