Epson ET-8550 031004 head temperature error code not paper jam The problem is commonly due to a defect in the printhead, however it may also be related to a problem with the mainboard. Here is what happens: when the printer starts up, the thermistor on the printhead is pulsed. This thermistor measures the temperature based on the change in the voltage. When the voltage readings indicate an abnormally high temperature, the printer presumes that the printhead is hot, which is usually a result of a short circuit, to ensure it is causing damage to the printhead.

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

Inspect the Printhead:
Error 031004 indicates that the printhead is irreparably damaged and must be replaced. When changing the printhead, please pay attention to the attached Flexible Flat Cable (FFC). Check for burn marks, damage, or wear. In addition, if you notice any damage on the FFC, it will also need to be replaced so that the card does not produce errors after repair.
Check the Mainboard Fuse:
If you do not find any issues with the printhead or its connections, the next step is to check the fuse on the mainboard. A blown fuse can interrupt the thermistor’s signal, leading the printer to misinterpret the printhead's temperature. If you can work with electronic components, check the fuse for continuity and replace it if necessary.
Consider Mainboard Issues:
Less commonly, a faulty mainboard may also cause the 031004 error. If replacing the printhead and verifying the FFC and fuse doesn’t help, the mainboard needs further investigation or even replacement.
