Ink Refill Kits for HP Printers: Drill Size and Refilling Estimates

Question:
I want to buy a 30ml ink refill kit for my HP printer. The page says 30ml, but when I scrolled down, I noticed no information about the size of the hand drill.  And how many cartridge refills are in one 30ml refill bottle?

As for your question about drill size and how many refills a 30ml ink bottle gives, here they are:

Drill Size: The kit you received may include a drill kit, which is very different than what you would imagine a hand drill to look like; it is just for the sole reason of drilling a whole, specifically for your ink refill kit. This is the hole through which a syringe squirts ink into the cartridge. This drill is meant to create a hole large enough to insert the syringe tip, but it’s not meant to insert anything to plug or seal the hole, which is an important distinction. Sealing the hole would block airflow, which might lead to difficulties or leakage of ink flow.

Keep Effortlessly Functioning: The hole drilled must be kept open to the air to allow passage for the ink. If you’re worried about dirt or debris dropping into the cartridge, you can temporarily cover the hole with a small piece of tape and then punch the hole through the tape. This allows the ink to enter while still protecting the area.

Ink Capacity in 30ml bottles: There is, however, a method you can use to estimate how many cartridge refills a 30ml ink bottle will give you. The ink capacity of HP printer cartridges differs from that of other cartridges. An HP ink cartridge, for instance, especially if it is a standard cartridge, would not typically exceed 5-10ml of ink, while larger or high-yield cartridges may have more significant amounts.

  • How to Estimate: Our website features a helpful article explaining the ink volumes in HP cartridges and providing tips to make your cartridges last longer. Could you read it here: How Much Ink Is in My HP Cartridge?
  • Calculating: A 30ml refill bottle would give you about four full refills on a standard cartridge with about 7ml of ink. But please be careful because this depends on the cartridge and how much ink you use per print job. You may get more refills with smaller capacity cartridges, which can deplete more ink per refill when using larger ones.
