Question: I just watched your video on the L1800 capping station. What should I do if the wiper isn’t moving and the gears grumble during cleaning cycles? I’m unsure if this will fix my issue, but I wanted to ask about the wiper’s malfunction.
Answer: Thanks for writing, and sorry for the delay in responding. I know that printer problems are pressing, and I want to ensure I give you a comprehensive and complete response. We value your feedback and appreciate the time you spend with us on our YouTube channel, BCH Technologies. We love to provide up-to-date knowledge and content.
The issue with the Epson L1800 you are encountering, which is a grinding sound and a wiper stuck in one position when cleaning, can frequently indicate some mechanical interference or accumulation around the wiper region. The wiper plays a vital role in cleaning the printhead during maintenance cycles, and if it becomes blocked, it can lead to significant problems with the printer's functionality.
The most prevalent cause of this malfunction is the buildup of ink residue, dirt, or other gunk around the wiper mechanism. This debris can make the wiper hard to move or even allow the gears to slip and grind—probably the noise you’re hearing.
First, clean the gunk and ink buildup around the wiper. Look at where the wiper sits and make sure that no dried ink or debris is preventing it from moving. Gently clean the area with a soft, lint-free cloth or cotton swabs. Just ensure you don't put too much pressure on the stiff pad; otherwise, you might ruin the printer's sensitive parts.
Please perform a visual inspection and make sure moving the wiper manually allows it to move without being stuck (if it is movable). If the grinding noise continues, there may be a problem with the wiper’s motor or the gears. A more thorough teardown or component switch-out might be needed in these situations.
Printer problems tend to be hands-on, and repairing them can be complex. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with remote troubleshooting or give you any guidance or advice on how to fix it. Our local diagnostic facility has offered an in-person assessment and repair service: https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service. Because demand for our service is high, we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. It could be three weeks before your printer may be serviced. Our services are organized to repair the entire printer or parts, and they include recommendations for follow-up. I am aware that our pricing is not the lowest. Could you please conduct a self-help study on the Internet? Check out YouTube on the subject or go to the BCH Technologies homepage: https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies. Look at the search function; it is located beside “About” on the edge of the right-hand menu bar. Almost every day, I receive dozens of requests for videos on numerous subjects. I’ve been shooting movies for nine years, so it’s difficult to remember each one. Using the search mechanism provided by YouTube would be very beneficial. It may also provide you with topics related to other channels. Well, I hope this information helps you with your Epson L1800. Thank you for your interest and backing!
