So, in general, let's fix your Epson Artisan 1430. 71H: Home position seeking error of Automated Platen Gap (APG) assembly. Here is a step-by-step, in-depth explanation of how to figure out and fix this.
What’s the 71H Error Code? Causes and Fixes
Causes
- Foreign Object Obstruction: Objects or debris obstructing the APG sensor.
- APG Unit Failure: Wear or incorrect assembly of the APG unit.
- APG-Sensor not functioning: Sensor misalignment- Sensor damage or swapped installation.
- Wireless Suspension: There is a loose or poorly connected cable for the APG assembly.
Could you determine the Error Code? You have accurately used the adjustment program to verify the error code. For others, logging into the software requires selecting the option to make a ‘certain change,’ checking printer info, and looking up the latest error code.
Check the APG Sensors:
- Check the assembly for APG sensors. Double-check they’re in the right places and not crossed. Worse than that — sometimes, they become drunk misplacements — that diploma will be a common issue and could result in the error.
- Check the sensor legs and look for damage because they are skinny and easy to break.
- Check the area surrounding the APG sensor and assembly for debris or obstructions. Removing any foreign body may instantly fix the issue.
- If the sensors are damaged or not functioning correctly, could you consider replacing them? Replacement APG sensors are available on our website (https://bchtechnologies.com/epson-photointerrupter-widely-used-as-pe-sensor--apg--automated-platen-gap-sensor-others--l1800-1390-artisan-1430-wf-3620-wf-3640-wf-4630-wf-463x-series/).
- If the sensors are OK, then check the APG unit itself. Carefully disassemble the unit to ensure nothing is worn or out of alignment. For step-by-step instructions, check out this video guide (https://youtube.com/watch?v=G_lZLqRH_f0).
Test the Sub-Board:
- Check if the small yellow subboard (relay board) is installed properly and if the ASF sensor is in its socket. If roll printing, check any breakout board rerouting the APG signal. Directly plug the APG sensor into the original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) subboard and then plug it into the main board to test functionality.
- If the APG unit itself is damaged, a replacement may be required. We offer a no-return APG unit for the Epson Artisan 1430 here (https://bchtechnologies.com/no-return-apg-unit-for-epson-l-1800-1390-and-artisan-1430/).
This will help you identify the root cause of error 71H and fix it to resolve the error successfully.
Printer issues can be a thorny affair, as problems tend to be hands-on. We cannot offer remote troubleshooting, recommendations, or support for printer repairs. We provide an on-site evaluation and repair service (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service). Due to the number of requests, we are working on a first-come, first-served basis. It might be a few weeks before we get all your printer to drop. We service the entire printer or spare parts with clear instructions on troubleshooting. We know that our prices are not the cheapest. Therefore, we encourage you to do self-service through online research. Check out YouTube or visit our YouTube channel homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies); you can use the search icon beside About on the right side of the menu bar to find specific videos. I get dozens, literally dozens, of questions every day asking about videos on a given topic. Making videos for almost nine years makes it hard to recall everyone. So, the best way to do this is to use the search function on YouTube. YouTube might also recommend relevant videos from other channels that could help you.
We appreciate your continued support and engagement. Thanks again for reaching out. Please let us know if you need more help!
Update from Customer:
I just wanted to follow up and let you know that I've resolved the issue. It turns out the thick black paper roller needed to be released, which must have happened during a printhead alignment. Releasing it seems to have fixed everything.
Thank you for your amazing and informative videos – they were a huge help. I’ll definitely use your services in the future!
