Epson ET-8550 Printhead Removal Guide: Step-by-Step Instructions

If you are experiencing printing issues with your Epson ET-8550, it might be time to replace or repair the printhead. Removing the printhead may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and instructions, it can be done easily. In this article, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to remove the printhead from your Epson ET-8550 printer.

First, it is important to note that if you have followed our previous video, you should have already taken the printer apart. However, if you have not done so, you can still remove the printhead by following the steps in this guide.

Step 1: Remove the Housing Cover

The first step in removing the printhead is to remove the housing cover on the left side of the printer. This will allow you enough workspace to slide the printhead to the left. To do this, use a dental tool to remove the cover. If you do not have one, we recommend investing in a set of dental tools, which can be found online or at your local hardware store.

Step 2: Remove the Tube Guard

Next, you will need to remove the tube guard. To do this, lift the front part of the guard and slide it towards the right until you reach the notch. Lift the guard straight up to remove it. Keep in mind that there are two screws that need to be removed to take off the tube holder.

Step 3: Mark the Damper

Using a magic marker, mark the damper and the tube 1, 2, 5, and 6. This will ensure that you can easily reconnect them when you reinstall the printhead.

Step 4: Remove the Adaptor Plates

There are six adaptor plates that need to be removed to take off the printhead. Use a Phillips number one screwdriver bit to remove the screws. Once the screws are removed, use a dental tool to pull and lift the damper in sequence so that you can easily put them back when reinstalling the printhead.

Step 5: Disconnect FFC Cables and Lift the Printhead

Finally, disconnect the two FFC cables and lift the printhead by hand. Place the printhead in a safe location until you are ready to reinstall it. It is important to note that there are four screws in each corner that need to be saved in a container for later use when reinstalling the printhead.
