A Walk-through of Epson Mainboard CD16 Formatter Board - WorkForce WF-3640 WF-3620

Today, we will talk about the Epson Workforce WF-3640, and I will give you a brief rundown of the mainboard. The main focus today is on the wiring. I’m going to be using a CD60 mainboard for this, and if you watch the related youtube video, you’ll see that everything is clearly labeled.

The “R” stands for resistor, and the “C” stands for connector. I’ll be focusing on the connection part for today. If you look closely, you’ll see one of the labels says CN73. That stands for connection 73. You’ll also notice that it tells you the contact point’s color (yellow for this one). The plug into this space will also have a corresponding yellow color.

Below CN73 is CN32. This is a white port and, therefore, will have a white connecting plug. This wire is for the scanner’s motor. Below that is the ADF motor’s wire, labeled CN33. To the right of that is CN30, the CR/ cartridge motor. CN71 is nearby and is for the EDF encoder and the EDF dock sensor.

CN70 is the FFC cable to the scanner. If you remove the ground wires, you should be able to take the scanner off. Once you take out the scanner, there shouldn’t be too many things left. Next, we’ll remove the CN20 breaker. This cable goes to the buzzer and LED panel on the front of the printer.

Next is the CN53 sensor, which tells the printer whether the door is open or not. In the back of the motherboard, you’ll find connections 41, 42, and 43. Connections 41 and 42 go to the printhead, with one on either side. Connection 43 is the piece in charge of reading the ink chip level.

Finally, you should see a very long, thin cable that connects to the star wheels. This has the PS sensor and goes to CN45. There’s a wireless card that connects to CN9. CN 51 is probably the most important one, as it’s the one that the power cable goes into. CN 44 is a long cable that connects to the relay card, which, in turn, goes to your maintenance box.

CN5 connects to your fax module. CN52 goes to the PE module. CN51 is for the paper feed and PF encoder. CN55 is used for detecting the first cassette to see if the tray is inserted or not. CN56 detects the second one. CN30 goes to the printhead motor. CR54 goes to the pickup encoder, with the related motor being connected to CN34. CN31 goes to the PF motor.
