Question:
Is the conversion kit for spongeless cartridges compatible with Canon 245xl and 246xl cartridges? Also, what's the difference between the PG-245 and PG-245XL cartridges? Will a PG-245XL compatible Canon 2500 series printer?
Answer:
Difference Between PG-245 and PG-245XL Cartridges
Many ink cartridges, including the PG-245 and PG-245XL cartridges, are available on the market. The only difference between them is ink capacity. The PG-245XL is a high-yield variant of the PG-245. It has more ink inside, so it can yield more pages before needing to be replaced. However, the internal sponge structure does not change when ink is replenished in these cartridges; thus, the volume difference in ink becomes quite small after refilling.
Does PG-245XL Fit in a Canon 2500 Series Printer?
Yes, the PG-245XL cartridge is compatible with Canon printers that accept PG-245 cartridges, such as some 2500 series Canon printers. If your printer is compatible with PG-245 cartridges, you'll have no trouble using the PG-245XL version.
Can the Spongeless Cartridge Modification Kit be used on Canon 245XL and 246XL?
PG-245/PG-245XL and CL-246/CL-246XL cartridges cannot be converted to work without the sponges using a cartridge modification kit. Here’s why:
- This design uses a sponge that holds the cartridge itself. In the c to keep the ink. Inal refilling, the spongy structure allows smooth ink distribution and minimizes leakage.
- The PG-245/PG-245XL and CL-246/CL-246XL cartridges have fewer sponges than others. To facilitate this design, their plastic top is a little thicker to fit with the sealing well.
- If you remove the sponge and go to a spongeless setup, you won’t be able to work the OEM cover properly, making the mod moot.
- While spongeless conversion improves the ink flow on some other cartridge models, it won't work for the PG-245 and PG-245XL, which are not made to run without an internal sponge.
So, if you want your Canon 245XL or 246XL cartridges to last Optimally, it is better to refill than convert to a spongeless system.
Printer issues and modifications are hands-on and sometimes a little awkward to pin down. Sorry, we can not assist with remote troubleshooting, printer repair suggestions, and support. That being said, we do have a local diagnostic facility where we can perform an in-person evaluation and repair, available here (https://bchtechnologies.com/printer-repair-service) — but our services are all first-come, first-serve, and with high demand, you may not see your printer drop-off for a few weeks.
As professional repair can be the most expensive solution, we strongly recommend researching yourself as thousands of Online help are available for DIY repairs. YouTube is a good first place to look for repair videos that might help. You can go on our YouTube channel homepage (https://youtube.com/@bchtechnologies) and on the menu bar (it can be found titled as "About") click on the search icon and if you know what you're looking for, type it in there. While there is nothing wrong with looking for such detailed content that’s out there on the topic (and we covered this in-depth over the past nine years), always try to do a YouTube search in general to find these videos (even by other creators).
