How to Reset Epson 232 Cartridges for the WF-2950: Chipless Solutions & Alternatives

Question:

I just bought a refill kit on Amazon, and I like how simple it is. However, I am unable to reset the cartridge. I attempted to figure out which reset tool I should be using, but could not, so I looked at the files and saw one folder: reset tool. My printer is an Epson WF-2950 with 232 cartridges, which have five pins, and that’s what has me unsure. Can you help me?

Answer:

Epson 232 cartridge reset: regular or chipless?

Epson's avoidance of conventional ARC chip and physical resetters has made software the primary means of bypassing or resetting the ink cartridge chips. Because your Epson WF-2950 utilizes 232 cartridges equipped with 5-pin chips, you have a few options available:

Instead of using a reset tool, use Chipless software

Older chip resetters are becoming ineffective on newer machines. Chipless firmware solutions, however, can eliminate the ink chip. We'll use InkChip's chipless solution at Chipless Solution.

➡ InkChip..softnet (https://inkchip.net/soft)

Install their chipless firmware (if your model is a WF-2950) — you will never have to reset your cartridges again.

If your model isn’t on the InkChip list, it might be too new for the market. Try to come back often, as InkChip is one of the earliest providers to offer support for new printers.

What If a Chip-Less Option Isn’t Possible?

If a chipless firmware option is not available for the WF-2950, you have two alternatives:

A. Purchase a Physical Chip Resetter (Less Common for 232 Cartridges)

Most models support chip resetters through older models, and no regular 7-pin resetter supports Epson 232 cartridges.

Otherwise, you could search eBay for an Epson 232 chip resetter or Epson waste ink resetter to see if one is available.

B. Protect Ink Levels With Transparent Third-Party Cartridges

Going chipless means those ink levels won’t be monitored on your printer’s LCD screen.

Most users now like refillable transparent cartridges that allow you to visually see the ink levels, rather than relying on software tracking.

Search eBay for empty or refillable Epson 232-compatible cartridges.

OEM empty cartridges usually sell for $1–$2 apiece.

Reset waste ink counter (if needed)

You'll have to reset the waste ink counter for any errors with the waste ink pad full on your printer. (That is distinct from resetting your ink cartridges.)
